1. Internet Smokers Network Club Public Library: SFD-USA. Please drop by and check out some very good reading.

2. Clinton Loses War On Drugs. Declares Victory Over Nicotine!: The Daily Republican Newspaper. The American Medical Association (AMA) has not been able to determine whether or not nicotine is addictive or whether properties in the brain itself are responsible for addiction behavior in some people and not in others.

3. The Nazi War on Cancer: The New England Journal of Medicine. Book Review. "For example, some scientists believe that although the harmful effects of habitual cigarette smoking are clear, the putative effects of passive smoking on morbidity and mortality, though less clear, have been far more powerful in motivating public policy against individual rights. As Proctor states, appreciating these complexities may open our eyes to new kinds of continuities between the past and the present and may lead to a better understanding of how fascism temporarily triumphed in the first place."

4. Smoking and Statistics: Forest. Anti-smokers make great use of statistics in an effort to press home their point. However, all too frequently they fail to tell the whole story, resort to frightening analogies to make their point, or forget to examine the logic of what they are saying. Figures can be fun, and can easily be used to illustrate the absurd things we are asked to believe and, all too often, do believe without any further thought.

5. New Cigarette Stores Stubbed Out in Oakland: SFGate. The six-month ban was inspired by the Roscoes themselves (Cigarettes Cheaper!) -- a family of libertarian entrepreneurs who are used to going up against the government. When Oakland city officials ordered them to shut the store down, the Roscoes said ``no.''

6. Beer Drinking May Reduce Risk of Kidney Stones: washingtonpost.com. (2nd story on page) "The results of the study are drawn from a large lung cancer prevention trial, conducted from 1985 to 1988 in Finland and sponsored by the U.S. National Cancer Institute. Participants ranged in age from 50 to 69 years. While the study included only male smokers aged 50 and older, the researchers noted that there is "no reason to believe that the associations we observed would be different among nonsmokers, since smoking has not been found to be related to kidney stones.

7. Federal Refrigerator Police ?!: FY 2000 President's Budget Proposal. Goal 3, "Healthier, More Well-Nourished Population." "...'developing knowledge of the eating habits of' Americans, and 'modifying food intake behavior' are 'critical components' to having a well-nourished population."

8. We Are Everyday People:
*** Testimonials: (Comedy) Thank You. With testimonials from the Unabomber and more.
*** Political Correctness: Left, Right and Center. Political Correctness has permeatedour society. Not only in language but, more importantly, in thought. Thank heavens for mediums such as this that allow First Amendment liberty.
*** Resources for Sons of Liberty: Sons of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty website is a common effort by everyone who believes in limited Constitutional government and conservative Christian values to spead those ideas and beliefs. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or information that might be of interest to the Sons of Liberty, please email Aaron Simms at patriot@sons-of-liberty.org
*** California: A (Chemically) Sensitive State: Dr. Dean. It’s sad to see so many people with this phobia, which I consider mostly psychosomatic. It’s no way to live your life, afraid of everything around you.
*** Gene Mutation Carries Increased Cancer Risks: Reuters Health. Mutations in the BRCA2 gene -- a gene known to be related to breast and ovarian cancers -- appear to increase the risk of several different cancers.
*** Politically Incorrect Show from New Zealand: Lindsay Perigo. "We'll divide the country into two. You Nanny Statists can have the North Island, we individualists the South Island. The North Island will be renamed the People's Republic of Aotearoa; the South Island will be called the Republic of New Freeland."

CONTROVERSY

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience,
but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Only in America ... can a homeless combat veteran live in a cardboard box,
and a draft dodger live in the White House.
