The Evening Sky
I stood outside one evening late
To just enjoy the view
The sky was clear without a cloud
The moon was almost new
The grassy field on which I stood
Was waving by the breeze
Some early dew caught bits of
light
To shine on nearby trees
"Come find me if you can" I heard
Sang crickets somewhere near
A bird gives off one sleepy chirp
So softly but so clear
I see a falling star streak down
I give a quiet sigh
To my surprise I look and see
A comet streaking by
Much larger than surrounding stars
It gives a lovely view
Its tail so long and curving back
Behind it follows true
The comet gives me thoughts of
flight
The wonder fills my head
With one last glance I turn around
And go inside to bed
