Fog

One early evening as I walked
Along a traveled road
I came across a stunning sight
A wonder to behold

Thick and soft and silently
The fog came rolling in
Slowly it surrounded me
As nighttime did begin

As it came in, these silent clouds
That to the earth stay near
The trees and shrubs that seemed so close
All start to disappear

I looked up at a streetlight
That tried to cut the haze
It caused a halo 'round the lamp
As I watched in a daze

Soon I was surrounded
but before I could say
Just as silent as it came
The fog had rolled away
