In the beginning, Evil ran rampant. Good, known as The Alliance, overcame Evil, and sealed it away, locking it with ten keys called "Runes". The Alliance then took these ten keys and separated them, putting them into the souls of ten humans. Every 1000 years, the Runes are re-born into new souls, letting Evil, if it had a chance, gather these keys and use them to escape from its own prison.

At the beginning of the new millenium, a crack opened in the seal protecting Evil. It manifested itself into human form, and is now searching for the keys that will open the seal, letting Evil run throughout the Earth again.

However, The Alliance has a backup plan. They have pre-destined five young people to fight Evil, using the powers from their Runes to transform themselves into superheroes. Their job is to protect the Runes protected inside of them, and to search for and protect the other five Runes.
