There's a dear little spot(,?) it's a spot of great fame
It's the prettiest wee spot that ever I've seen,
It stands over in Ireland on good Irish soil
And they call it old Derry on the Banks of the Foyle.
My parents they died when I was quite young,
I took a strange notion o'er the ocean to roam,
To view those distant countries and tread o'er their soil,
Far away from sweet derry on the Banks of the Foyle.
I've been a wild rover for many a year,
I've spent all my money on whiskey and beer.
Though I spent all my money there's no end to my toil
Far away from old Derry on the Banks of the Foyle.
I courted a damsel her age was nineteen,
She was the prettiest damsel that ever I seen,
Her name is Mary, the price(prize?) of our isle,
And she lives in Derry on the Banks of the Foyle.
It's soon I'll go home now, no more roving for me,
I'll go home to my darling across the blue sea,
I'll go home to my mary and together we'll toil
In dear old Derry on the Banks of the Foyle.
And now to conclude and to finish my song
I hope you'll excuse if I've said one word wrong;
But if you come to Ireland to that good Irish soil,
You'll find a hearty welcome on the Banks of the Foyle.
