Hello and a warm welcome to RNE. A place
for Rushden people whether they were born here, grew up here, emigrated or have recently moved into the area.
The purpose of this site is to give an insight
into the town itself , using articles, pictures , links, historical details, links to other sites etc and opening the
site to any articles any of YOU want to add.
I want to get a dialogue going between
the inhabitants of the town about issues that effect the town.
Drop in whenever and often.

I really do n`t know what visitors coming along the A6 from the direction of Bedford think
of Rushden when they come past The Compasses, and look on their left at all the derelict and overgrown buildings, then the
derelict Waggon and Horses and the overgrown ex-BP station by Hall Park. I can never remember the town looking so rough,
and the state of the roads is nothing short of a disgrace. There`s a new road being built from the new Higham bypass into
Rushden near the old railway station, all very well, but should n`t the money spent on this have been allocated to repair
the roads all over Rushden ?.
When the town was given it`s own town council, many thought that it would improve the town, but the
council seems to be good at Party in the Park and little else. It`s obviously impotent and the decision making is made in
Thrapston. Apparently, the sites are still in private hands and council tax is still being collected, thus compulsory
purchase is n`t an option , unless some rich developer comes along with £1m.The council are pleading poverty.
Not only the eyesore of High Street South will put visitors off from visiting Rushden. The increasingly
sorry sight of the old Bedford Motors/ Theatre and the fading gothic glory of the Rilton/Queen Victoria opposite . Not only
is it an eye-sore, but is now a real danger to the area due to its attractiveness as an arsonist`s paradise.

ON THE 22nd FEBRUARY 2005,10 MEMBERS OF THE COUNTY COUNCIL
CABINET ARE GOING TO VOTE ON THE PROPOSALS TO CHANGE THE DUTY SYSTEM AT RUSHDEN FIRE STATION.
Martin Johnson, (Rushden Rangers` groundsman
no less!) has an impassioned plea which deserves wider appreciation. This is a serious Rushden issue which needs everyone`s attention and support. Click on the link, and send an
appropriate e-mail to make your voice heard.
It`ll be very ironic if weekend cover is removed and these particular
buildings go up in a fire. A decent sized hose from the back of the fire station could almost reach the scene, but we`d have
to wait for an appliance from Wellingborough or Kettering to get there to put it out, and be too late of course. It COULD HAPPEN.
It`s a sad fact that more people know and care more about fictional communities
in "Walford" and "Weatherfield" than their own. Put the remote down and get involved in YOUR OWN community, before
you have no choice.
Click on the Rushden On-Line logo, join up for the forums, exchange ideas,
get involved, or do n`t moan when it`s all too late.
