Founder Wu-wei Mushin Mo-wai system

Minister Joseph Cowles, Ph.D.

Prof. Cowles is a man of great faith and has influenced many, many young minds over the years. He used the skills GOD gave him and turned them into wonderful tools with which to do GOD's work. He will always hold a dear place within the founders of this church. Prof. was a personal student of Bruce Lee prior to the formation of the Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute in Seattle Chinatown District in Washington, as such he was listed as a Charter/Permanent Member of that school. He founded the Wu-Wei /Mo-Wai/ Mushin system of self defense and was chartered under Soke Albert Church. He has also been associated with other martial arts greats like Wally Jay, Joe Purcell, and Tony Annesi to name but a few. He has served in the US MARINE CORP and the US Navy and he has retired from the US Postal Service. He currently resides in Idaho where he is still teaching and preaching.

Mushin Cross

Copyright Emblem

Above is the Mushin Cross. The base emblem is the design and creation of Prof. Joseph Cowles and the cross was later added by unanimous vote of the Mushin Kan Council under the direction of "Coach" Douvillier and with Prof. Cowles avid blessing. Though it looks similar to the Yin/Yang symbol, if you look closer you will see that it is not. Our symbol has both spiritual and martial application. On the spiritual side it symbolizes that Christ is the center of our being and all the turmoil of the world, both our's and other's sin nature i.e. anger, intolerance, pride, sins of the flesh etc. is either swirling in at us or being spun out from us. If; however, we keep our focus centered to Christ we can maintain our serene and calm center(much like the eye of the hurricane.) The martial side has pretty much the same application.

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear HIM which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

John Douvillier

"Coach" John Douvillier is another principled man of GOD. He served in the US Army and has a daughter and Son-In-Law in the US Marines. He is Prof. Cowles' Student and lineal successor and also the lineal successor in the Bei Koku AibuJutsu System. He has served the martial art community for over 40 years and is still doing so. Striving to input Christ wherever he can. "Coach" Douvillier has announced through his rank certificates, School Charters, Instructor Certificates and Class Prayers only to name a few, his dedication to the CHRIST. It is with much reverence and respect that he is included as a primary influence behind the founding of our church.
