The Boys' Cross-Country season of this year was a
novel one. The meets were larger than ones in years past, with IPSL and
WPIAL championships, four invitationals, four meets against two or three
other teams, and only two dual meets. The season concluded with an overall
72-29 record. The team triumphed in the IPSL Championships, the Northern
Invitational, and the firts Pine-Richland JV race, but only a sixth place
was attained at the WPIAL championships.
The team ran as a good, solid pack, much more than
in past seasons. Dan Nguyen, Brandon Tung, Andre Moura, Pat Dickinson,
and freshman Andrew Bell ran arm-lengths away from one another up front;
their times wer in a range of about 45 seconds.
Meanwhile, John Baglier, Charlie Cheever, Ben Follansbee,
Drew Gifford, Mike Locke, Ganesh Muthappan, and many more took the races
from behind.
Also worth noting are Brian "Big" Bailey [sic],
Rob Csendes, and Matt Hall, along with frehsmen Jim Sixsmith, James May,
Zack Weidner [sic], and everybody else for the misery they endured during
the freezing and wet Homecoming race.
The Altoona hot tub, the unpopular Saturday practices,
our third annual "Roma Run," Pat's pasta party, and the unpredictable events
from the sophomores all made the season special in some way. Mac, with
his stories, and Simeone, with his popsicles, were a support to us.
From our dog day to the cold and rainy practices,
from Drew's really bad jokes to an occasional wisecrack from Samir, and
from John and Drew leading the team to the triumvirate leading the meets,
this season was one to remember.
Next year, the team will run through their season
in their own way with Dan, Ganesh, and Brandon as captains and many freshmen
filling the gaps. Peace!
