Message from Tony "Thumper" Dipasquale

To whom it may concern:

I was writing to say that I was thoroughly impressed with the work done on the SSA CC Web Page. I never thought Suda would find its own resting place on the internet, but I'm glad it has. If you would, I would love to be entered in the guestbook:

As for your other question, I ran with Matt King when he was a freshman, but other than that, I could not tell you about his captaincy. I can relay one humorous story. In '92, when racing Highlands, a team we beat consistently, team captain Artie Gilkes (arguably the best CC runner ever at SSA) made the local papers, despite finished somewhere in the teens, because he was credited with jumping into a ravine to save the fallen Matt King. The theory was that Artie risked his position in the race to save the life of King, who had slipped in the woods. That, to my knowledge, is King's first brush with fame.

As for other captains, if you can include a reference to Gilkes (SSA '93), captain in '91 & co-captain (with me) in '92, I'd love to see it. He was the I.P.S.L. champion his junior and senior years, he was the state champion his senior year (before we joined WPIAL), FC Invitational champion, Central Catholic Invitational Champion. Carried on the vaunted tradition of pre-meet Friday Pizza Hut runs, as well as the team's then-fascination with Mountain Dew. His senior team finished undefeated in dual meets, finished second at Central and Fox Chapel, and finished third in States, despite his first place finish and a 4th (Tony DiPasquale, captain '92) and a 12th place finish (Andy May, captain '94). His senior team also finished first in I.P.S.L. Future or past captains on that '92 team: Gilkes ('91, '92), Bruce Jacobs ('91), Tony DiPasquale ('92), Andy May ('94), Adam Kukic ('95), Matt King ('95), Jared Williamson (I think). Artie went on to star at Penn State.

Thanks for taking the time!
