Note: I have not seen many episodes nor do I have any of the mangas of Dragon Ball. I'm going purely by flashbacks, information from other websites, and other things I've been able to put together. So this section will be very brief and yet still include some very important information that is never told later in the other series. If you really want a good idea of this series, watch the 10th Anniversary Special of Dragon Ball, which sums up most of the series in about a hour and a half. Please remember that this entire Storylines section WILL spoil the series for you. If you want to wait to see these on TV, please go to another page.
Dragon Ball began way back in the 80's as a manga (comic) and was later made as a television series of the same name. The series stared began with a young baby boy crash landing on Earth in a Saiyajin spacepod. An old man, named Son Gohan, was hiking through the area and saw what he believed was a meteorite. When he approached the meteorite, he instead saw a baby, with a tail. Gohan decided to raise the boy as his grandson, and he began by naming him, Son Gokou. This baby was very problematic, his temper was indeed quite short. However, in an attempt to escape from Gohan, Gokou fell off of a cliff and landed on his head (ouch!!), causing him to forget something very important. After this incident, Gokou became the innocent soul that we know now.
After a few years, Gohan gave Gokou the Nyoibo (the bo that could extend really long) and and trained Gokou in the ways of martial arts.
One night, when the moon was full, Gokou just happened to see it and, well, Gokou transformed. This transformation (although not known of yet), was in fact, the ever-so famous Ooharzu (see the Saiyajin Forms page). Sadly, Gokou accidentally stepped on Gohan, killing him instantly. When Gokou later woke up the next day, he believed that Gohan went on a trip.
Some time later, Gokou was training outside when he heard a strange noise. It was the noise of a motorcycle, but since Gokou has never seen anyone other than Gohan in his entire life, he was curious as to what kind of "animal" it was.
Gokou saw that it was traveling quite fast down the dirt road. Enter Bulma. A young girl was driving the [Capsule Corp.] motorcycle she saw Gokou in her path and managed to swerve out of his way just in time. Bulma, being the quick-to-the-gun type, drew her gun and unload an entire clip at Gokou while screaming insanities and such. Gokou was knocked down from the bullets, but not harmed. He stood up, that act alone freaked Bulma out totally after she shot him about 6 times.
a young boy named Son Gokou, who had a tail. After the death of his grandfather Gohan, Gokou lived by himself in the mountains, separated from all other humans. One day, a young girl named Bulma came across him and then, the quest for the dragon balls began. Gokou and Bulma, went of several adventures in an attempt to collect the seven dragon balls, which when all collected could be used to summon the Eternal Dragon, Shenron. As their quest went on, they met some friends (including: Killyn, Tienshihan, Oolong, Master Roshi, Yamcha, Puar, and others. They also encountered several villains (Pilaf, the Red Ribbon Army, and Piccolo Daimao), too. We soon found out what the purpose of Gokou's tail was, to transform into Oohazru (or the giant ape, for you US DBZ fans). As the series went on, Gokou became stronger and stronger, battled in some world tournaments (where he met Tienshihan). But that was only the beginning of Son Gokou's rising power. As time went on, Gokou met a young woman by the name of Chi-Chi, whom he later married. Son Gokou and Chi-Chi lived happily in the wilderness.
