New to the site? Or been here for a while and don't know about how we started? Here's the place then. You can see all our old layouts that we had since The Beginning [of time!] and there's some information about each one. The Beginning
See the whole thing.
Whoa flashback... There probably aren't many of you who remember this layout, if you do, then awesome! Thank you for sticking with us this long. This was the first attempt of a new layout, which took about a whole 5 minutes to make (such effort!!).
Technically, this image is of SSJRPG version 1.5, I don't have the original original layout because it was such a minor change to the layout (although now that I think about it, the first one was better than this one...).
Being that this layout was made by me (SS3 GokouX; Chaos is still offline for... a while), it had the trademark semi-Evil background color: Black. It was cool back then, a major change from not having any layout at all (For the very few of you who remember SS3 GokouX's Dragon Ball Shrine!! What the hell was I on when I thought of that name..?). It was only the beginning...
The Second Coming
See the whole thing.
Made by our ex-staffer Shifter, this layout was a giant leap towards a real layout. Hell, it was a real layout! Deep Blue, the layout (no, not the super computer). It was during this time that we did some major work on the site and basically doubled the size of the site.
If you're wondering why this image has no text on it, it's because this was when we began using NewsPro, which allowed us to post news with ease. Since this screen shot was just from a back up copy of SSJRPG and not located on the server, there are no Perl programs on my Mac (unless someone decided to give me $700, then sure.) therefore, no huge text running down the page (and also no ads).
And thus began the phase which we began utilizing CGI scripts to make your time better and easier while using this site (plus making our lives sooo much easier). This was was only a stepping stone in the history.
The Third Impact
The final step in Human Instrumentality, but no where near the end for SSJRPG. Okay, I'll give you Eva fans a chance to hit me... Oh darn, too late.
This layout wasn't supposed to see the light of GameShadow for at least another month, but sh*t happened and let's just say I had much less of a social life before this layout came out :( . During this time we added a lot of new stuff, we fixed and improved upon almost everything else. Although the requirements to view the site properly weren't up to par with our standards. That's what happens when you need to rush a new layout out fast, you leave a lot of poeple out. Which is super bad, because only about 1/3 of the visitors actually use an 800x600 resolution.
Version 3.6
What ever happened to 3.1 and everything up to 3.5 you say? Well 3.1 was originally going to be the addition of menu on the right. Then I added the 'Headlines' and then the 'Hosted Sites.' Then I decided to scrap the whole thing and re-make the current layout from scratch to solve our many problems with the layout, that was version 3.5. And then 3.6 was the addition of the benefits from 3.1 combined with the superior coding of 3.5. Wow, I bet that was a little confusing...
Looks aren't everything. As similar as this layout looks to the previous one, the actual code behind the pages is completely different. This layout solved the biggest ongoing problems we had with the last layout. This layout looks the same on all resolutions from 800x600 and up. I realize that lots of people still have older monitors and use a 640x480 resolution and 256 colors, but luckily those people who do, don't come here... Oh crap... I hope they're not leaving because this layout wasn't made to support old, old technologies... I just thought of this now...
This layout also shorte
ns the pages a lot. With the old layout, the content of many pages was shorter than the long list of links on the left side, not any more. Now the left 'menu' has been split up onto both sides. Links to other pages of this site are on the left, and other miscellaneous things (Headlines, Poll, Affiliates, etc.) are now on the right. Now when you go back to the shorter pages, they're roughly about half the length, saving you lots of percious RAM and makes the page scroll better. And if you have a good browser that doesn't reload the page when you re-size the window, it'll render the page faster. I know there's a lot of techie talk in this, but this is what big webmasters have to consider when making quality sites.
This layout also began the age when SS3 GokouX began to realize the importance of CSS. With one simple style sheet, we can control the colors, effects, and sizes of fonts and other things all over the site. So when we want to bump up the font size by a pixel, rather than going to every page and changing one number, we can change one number on one page. It's a lot like SSI, but works on any server. Our adoption of CSS makes the fonts appear the same sizes on every platform and every browser that supports at least minimal CSS (9 pixels high, don't believe me? Look at the style sheet!). For those of you who can't read the site need to realize that I can read the words on this site while using a 1980x1080 resolution, which is damn small. So I breaking your habits of going to pages with huge text that looks like crap. We're still adding some things here and there, of course. I'm planning on adding a rollover effect, if I ever get to it and add some more stuff here and there. What stuff you ask? Well then it wouldn't be a secret if we told you.
