The Caveman Dating Game

# of Players: 3-5

Playing Time: 20 minutes

Equipment: Deck of playing cards (no jokers) and a score pad.

The Story: The players are a bunch of cavemen competing for the most beautiful women in the tribe. Of course the most desirable women are the most difficult to obtain and hold on to.

The Cards: The deck has four suits; spears (spades), clubs (clubs), gifts (diamonds), and women (hearts). The value of cards is as follows; number cards have the same value as the number on the card, an ace is 1, a jack is 11, a queen is 12, and a king is 13.

The Cave: When a player takes control of a woman, the card is placed on the table (face up) in front of that player. This area is called the cave and each player has their own cave.

Setting Up: Randomly select a dealer. The dealer then deals 4 cards to each player. Players place the cards in their hand not showing them to the other players. All players must place any women they possess face up in the center of the table. This is the pool of available women. The dealer will continue to deal cards to players until everyone has 4 cards in their hand and all women have been placed in the pool. If after dealing cards there are no women in the pool, the dealer will turn over cards until a woman is found and then she is placed in the pool. Reshuffle the cards and place them face down on the table. This is the draw pile.

The Turn: Play begins on the dealers left and goes clockwise around the table. Each player performs the following actions in sequence;

1 - Draw cards
2 - Control women
3 - Score
4 - Perform normal actions
5 - Abandon women
6 - Signal end of turn

Drawing Cards: At the beginning of your turn draw cards to get your hand up to 4 cards. Place any women you draw into the availability pool and keep drawing until your hand has 4 cards. If you have 4 or more cards at the beginning of your turn you do not draw.

Controlling Women: Players with 1 or fewer women in their cave can skip this part of the turn. You may place any number of gift or club cards into the discard pile. The total of these cards allows you to control an equivalent value of women in your cave. Uncontrolled women run away to the availability pool.

Scoring: Add up the value of all the women in your cave and add it to your running total on your score pad.

Normal Actions: Players may perform any number of normal actions during their turn as long as they have the cards to do so. A player may only perform 1 action against a particular opponent per turn. A player is not obligated to take any normal actions if they don't want to. The normal actions are; courting, clubbing, attacking, challenging, bartering, and discarding.

Courting: Courteous players may win the heart of a woman by placing 1 or more gift cards into the discard pile and taking a woman of equal or lesser value (than the total of the gift cards) from the availability pool and placing her in your cave.

Clubbing: A player may club a woman and drag her off to their cave by placing 1 club card into the discard pile and taking a woman of lesser value (than the club) from the availability pool and placing her in their cave.

Attacking: Particularly despicable cavemen can attack women they are unable to possess. To make an attack place a spear card in the discard pile. Then take a woman from the availability pool and place her on the bottom of the draw pile (if the spear was equal to or less than the value of the woman) or top of the discard pile (if the spear was greater than the value of the woman). Players may not attack the last remaining woman in play.

Challenging: To challenge another player for the control of his women, place 1 club or spear from your hand face down on the table and state which player you are challenging. The defender then may play any 1 card from his hand. Both players reveal their cards at the same time. If the defender played clubs or spears, both players compare the value of the cards played. For the purpose of challenges spear cards are worth double their face value. The player with the highest card wins. If the challenge is a tie nothing happens. The winner takes any number of women from the loser he chooses and places them in his cave. If the defender had no cards or played no cards the attacker wins. If the defender played a gift card, the attacker wins but must choose between taking the women or the gift not both. Gift cards go to the attacker's hand if the attacker choose this option, otherwise it is returned to the hand of the defender. All clubs and spears played go to the discard pile.

Bartering: The active player may engage in trading with other players for women and/or gifts. Only women and gifts may be traded. If both players agree to a trade the appropriate cards are then exchanged. A player may not barter with and challenge the same opponent in the same turn.

Discarding: If a player has not performed any normal actions, the player may discard 1 card from their hand, place it on the bottom of the draw pile and draw another from the draw pile. Doing this however prevents them from performing any other normal action this turn. If a woman is drawn place her in the availability pool and draw again.

Abandon Women: You may place any number of women from your cave into the availability pool that you want to get rid of. You are not obligated to do so.

End of the Turn: When a player has completed the turn the player should signal the next player by saying I'M DONE.

Ending the Game: The game ends when the last card is drawn out of the draw pile or when a player reaches 100 points or more. The player with the highest score wins.
