The Cast

Karen Meagher - (Born: 1962) Karen took the leading role in the film, playing Ruth Beckett.  She was the only one of the main characters to survive for more than a year after the bombs fell, and took a leading role throughout the whole film.  As well as Threads, she has played a part in another nuclear destruction film, Chernobyl: The Final Warning, which also starred Annette Crosbie.  She has appeared in many British television shows, ranging from Heartbeat to A Touch of Frost.  Her most recent significant role was in 1997, when she was in Sharpe's Justice.

Reece Dinsdale - (Born: 6th August 1959)  Reece played Jimmy in the film; Ruth's Fiancé.  He was probably killed when the Sheffield bomb exploded, but we are never told of his exact fate.  Reece Dinsdale, himself from Yorkshire, is a familiar face in British television. He made notable guest appearances in, Minder and Lovejoy.  He continues to work for television to this day.

Rita May - Rita is also a familiar face in television.  She made two guest appearances this year in, Clocking Off and In Deep.  She appeared in Sharpe's Justice, alongside Karen Meagher.  Despite her sharp and grumpy role in Threads, she is in fact described as a very funny and light-hearted woman.  As well as a regular role in Children's Ward, she also played a continious role in Fat Friends this year.

Phil Rose - (Born: 2nd May 1952)  Phil played the medical officer in the film.  He took the role of giving orders to people about what to do with casualties.  His character suffocated, along with the other officers, when the Sheffield Town Hall collapsed on top of the bunker.  He played Friar Tuck in Robin of Sherwood and appeared in Minder.

Steve Halliwell - (Born: 21st March 1954) Steve played the information officer in the film, which was a relatively small part.  He perished with the rest of the council after the collapse of the town hall.  He is now most famous for playing the eccentric Zak Dingle in the British Soap Opera, Emmerdale.  He also appeared in All Creatures Great and Small.

Jane Hazelgrove - (Born: 17th July 1968) Jane played Alison in the film, the whingey younger sister of Jimmy.  Alison was last seen when she left the house, minutes prior to the attack, to get food supplies.  Jane Hazelgrove is a familiar face in British television, appearing in Coronation Street, Albion Market, London's Burning, Where the Heart is, Jonathan Creek and Lovejoy.
