Notes:
 The first Type 24 StarBase, StarBase LoneStar, was constructed in 2377,
 orbiting Polaris in an Earth-like orbit. After the Independence Day 
 offensive of 2397, StarFleet Command decided that since most of the major
 threats to Federation security are on one half of the perimeter of the
 Federation (those being the Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Maquis, and
 Dominion), StarFleet should have its main command center closer to what
 will inevitably become the front lines in the next war, though deep
 enough in Federation space to make attacking it non-feasible. StarBase
 LoneStar was in the right place at the right time, and had the extra space,
 so it has become the main command center for StarFleet Command.

 While not far from most of the Federation core worlds, the Polaris system 
 is about a quarter of the way from Earth (a.k.a. Terra) to the perimeter of
 the Federation, in the general direction of Bajor.

 The starbase itself has enough firepower and shields to outlast about 18 
 battleships, and if that weren't enough, it also has at least seven 
 warships tasked to its defense.
