Notes:
 The SOVEREIGN-class, originally manifested in the SOVEREIGN and
 ENTERPRISE-E, both launched in 2373, was initially (as were many 
 new starship designs in the early seventies) concieved of
 as a failure, and the SOVEREIGN was never officially commissioned.
 It remained at Utopia Planetia for years, as a testbed for various
 new systems, until the SOVEREIGN-class project was revived - with the
 original specificatons updated to include new technology - in the
 mid-nineties. It was one of the earliest new designs for large ships,
 replacing the GALAXY class variants as the largest spaceframe in
 service until it lost that distinction to newer, larger ships.

 Along with the later MONITOR and TRAFALGAR classes, the SOVEREIGN class
 now forms the bulk of StarFleet's battlecruiser forces.

 All SOVEREIGN-class starships are to be named for types of potentates,
 and will be given registry numbers in the 89200 series.
