Notes:
  The SURAK-class developed out of the need for a new generation of
  exploration dedcated vessels.  This class can be equipped to last
  without restocking for 10 years if necessary.  The quantum scanners,
  experimental on the USS SURAK, have been deemed safe for regular use,
  and are much more reliable than sensor systems of of the past, with
  much further ranges. However, their inherent bias towards scientific
  use has caused StarFleet to also provide the class with standard
  sensors, mainly utilised for contact with other ships and for weapons
  targeting.

  When it seemed that extra protection would be necessary, a large bay was
  added that would hold a YAMATO-class Corvette.  Aft shields have been
  specially modified so that launch can take place even when shields are
  up.

  All SURAK-class ships are to be given names of non-Terran political
  figures, and will be given registry numbers in the 95400 series.
