synthetic live

Welding fragments of twisted dance music into apocalyptic anthems.
Doom-beat has seldom tasted this bitter sweet.

on stage - from video

"PVC clad goth that takes the time and trouble to mainline techno and bigbeat into every vein available before taking the stage for your aural pleasure. Yet to pull off anything below superlative live performances."
Eris Promotions on Synthetic - December 1999

The Narcissus Pool + Diatribe + Synthetic @ The Albert, Brighton

Set list: For you to tell me why [Insanity remix] . Is there a centre? . Love somebody else
Are you surviving? . Sleeping with you . Mirror vision [revisited] . Salvation and obsession

"Electro-goth duo Synthetic were first up, the vocalist in a white straight-jacket style top, the female at the console in a black cat-suit. Synthetic pounded into a diverse set of addictive goth anthems. A relentless sense of melody saturates their music, which is reinforced with sophisticated techno and big beat rhythms. Think classic goth remixed by The Prodigy and you won't be far wrong. A powerful performance with emotive vocals and well crafted songs. I look forward to their gig with The Chaos Engine in January."

Saturday 31st January 1999
The Chaos Engine + Synthetic + Serotonin Sunset @ The Albert, Brighton

Set list: This is bleak house . For you to tell me why . Is there a centre? . Love somebody else
Are you surviving? . Sleeping with you . Salvation and obssession . Mirror vision [revisited]

"Next up were Synthetic, Brighton's favorite darkwave upstarts. A droning mechanical hum, not unlike the sound of a World War Two fighter plane, evolved into the opening track "This is Bleak House". The cyber-goth duo, both wearing black fake-furs, and illuminated only by a single revolving green light, stormed through a simultaneously bombastic and sinuous set. An explosive combination of 80's and 90's influences. Exciting sounds and memorable songs."

Saturday 15th May 1999
Passion Play + Synthetic + Arkham Asylum @ The Hobgoblin, Brighton

Set list: For you to tell me why . Favours of a stranger . Is there a centre? . Love somebody else
Sleeping with you . Know for certain . Salvation and obsession . For you to tell me why [encore]

"By the time Synthetic appeared on stage, the venue was full. People at the back were standing on chairs to get a better view. The stage disappeared in a swirling cloud of dry ice and a prismatic light-show kicked into action. The high-tech goth trio bombarded the crowd with a succession of highly danceable darkwave tracks. The set was well balanced, from the uncompromising intensity of "Favours of a stranger" to the introspection of "Is there a centre?". There is a seriousness to their music - at times the vocals reminded me of Joy Division or Swans. They encored with the dangerously destabilising "For you to tell me why"."
Kaleidoscope, Issue 6

"Self proclaimed "electro-sonic darkriders", Eris Pomotions called them "Brighton's biggest darkwave action heroes". Now featuring guitarist Paul Five of Serotonin Sunset, this cyber-goth three piece fuse classic goth with techno and industrial. Catch them at The Camden Underworld (Nemesis Promotions) with Andi Sex Gang and The Chaos Engine on 21st August 1999."
