KitKat's Diary: October

October 6th, 2000

Pretty late in getting to this eh? <oh well> I was away for a few days. I spent some extra time at my parents' house. Let's see... The things that went on while I was away included my niece Mia turning the big 2. :) We had a little party for her. Lots of picture were taken, and here's hoping I can get them developed and into my site before Christmas holidays. <hope!> Well Wednesday was my 35th birthday. I had the standard blues since it seemed that nothing went *right* for me all this summer in the fun things to do department. Maybe they will be better next summer. Hope so... Anyway, Aunt Marian made me a cake that was yummy. :) Mom and Dad gave me money, which is always good. :) We went to Lady Luck, and I won $30 in gift certtifs. that will come in handy for me in my monthly shopping. :) The big news from me is the fact that I might be getting a Gateway computer as a gift for myself. I really do need a new computer and one that's never been previously owned by another soul. <g> I need to do some checking around with Dad this weekend before I make a commitment. Plus I need to find a way to transfer my data from my Packard Bell computer to my (hopeful) new computer.

I did it!!!! I bought me my very first Gateway computer!!! <does the computer happy dance> It should take about 7 to 10 days before I get it over here. I sure hope I can transfer my files onto the new computer. other than that I am excited. :) I'm also getting a scanner to go along with it. Now I can scan my own pics and do more stuff on my web page! Well more about my new baby once it gets here and all hooked up and everything transferred. Now I gotta clean off my desk! <hehehehe>

October 10th, 2000

Had a fun day today. Went to Lady Luck with Mom and Ricky, and won some more tickets. :) I'm hoping I'm here tomorrow cause I'd like to have the chance to work on my site before my computer gets here. Yeah, slow day today...

October 11th, 2000

Got a recorded call from Gateway this afternoon informing me that my computer is on its way to my place. :) It should be here around Friday or Monday. Now I'm really nervous. I did some work my Princess Maker page, but my eyes started to hurt and had to stop. :/ Again, a slow day today...

October 12th, 2000

Got my first computer part today!!! Now I wonder when I will get the rest? I hate these slow days. <frowns>

October 13th, 2000

Got two more boxes today! :) I now have my tower and scanner. :) I read my data transfer book, and it states that I not only need both towers, but both monitors in order for everything to work. That's is so much I want to put into my new baby from my old baby. I'm sure everything will work out just fine. <hope hope>

October 18th, 2000

Yipes is a very good word to use this past week. You see, I got my monitor this past Monday and Ricky came over here later that same day and installed my unit, monitor and the data transfer stuff. Well I'll keep this as short as I can. I was able to transfer my stuff from my old computer to the new one. <huzzah!> Ricky did a bit of a difficult time trying to figure it out, but he did it! :) Well it had to happen that very night, I wanted to get on line and see what it would be like to get on the Internet with my provider on my new computer. I connected at 45000bps, but after a short while I was disconnected. Okay it was not a big deal so I clicked to sign back on. My modem however, kept telling that it was not hearing a dial tone. Now here's the weird part... I can get on line if I have my phone off the hook (hearing the dial tone and modem noise)! My connects are way less than 45000 going at a rate between 14.4 to 24000. The next day I called Gateway's tech support, and the rep said that he will send me an adaptor for my modem connection. I sure hope this works. I want my 45000+ speed back. <sigh> I do like my new computer, and I want to fix this modem problem so I can have Ricky re-format the old one for my aunt and install my scanner & speakers and re-install my printer. All in due time I guess... That is one of the major reasons for me not being able to update my site. I hope it won't be too much longer...

19th October, 2000

I’m almost had the point of wanting to chuck it all in. Now it seems my FTP site isn’t working.  I tried to upload Cube’s latest diary, but to no avail.  This has nothing to do with the modem just me trying to figure out all this web stuff without the aid of Front Page Express or my Web Publishing Wizard.  <heavy sigh>  Well here I go again.  Wish me luck…

October 24th, 2000

<heavy sigh> Still waiting for the day my Gateway modem gets fixed. However, I'm on line on my old Packard Bell. Now I know what Vector Graphics look like when you go into FPE. Yuck! I can't even do an up date on my main page. Well I probably could, but I'd have to re do EVERYTHING that I worked hard in doing for Halloween. I'll keep this short just in case it messes up my page. <sigh>

October 25th, 2000

Well I took a chance and it paid off today. I figured that I just can not do anything during the down time of my modem on my other computer. I'm so glad to be back on line on my other computer for the time being. The only *bad* thing today is finding out that when you click on my Ramblings From My Teenage Heart link on my BCR page, it takes you back to my home page. <heh heh heh> A little goof up from when I was trying to upload my homepage stuff from Word 2000. Expect more weirdness once I get back on the Gateway. :)

October 26th, 2000

Just a slow day today. A lady called from Gateway welcoming me to the Gateway family, but I told her of my modem problems. She asked me what I use my computer for and I replied with mainly the internet if I get my modem fixed. I told her that I'm not able to go out and about csue of my disability. She then asked me what disability I had to which I answered, "I'm a little person." "Oh that's not a disability!", she exclaimed. I started to twitch. I tell her, "Try going out and not being able to left stuff cause of your short arms or ask for help when you can't reach for something!" She was like "Oh... You don't sound short over the phone..." I almost lost it. She then asked me if I wanted a software package for my computer, but I had to decline as my budget won't allow that for me. She then tried to sell me 2 more years of their "In House Warranty" for tech support. If it weren't for the brewhaha that's going on right now I would have taken it. I had to inform her why buy two more years when they don't seem to want to honour the one year I have right now. <grrr> That put an end of our phone call. Still no call from tech people. I'll give them a call some time tomorrow afternoon, but I do believe that sometime this week-end I'm going to (with Dad) put the unit case in at my local GW Country store and leave it behind for however many days it may take. <sigh> Just a slow day...
