Welcome to my webpage dedicated to my needle felted and polymer clay art. I am also dedicating this
website and my art to help animals and people interested in pets. This page contains some examples of my art
as well as tips for current/future pet owners. I donate a percentage of my profits from art sales to help animals,
as well as a large amount of my time volunteering and working to help them.
Most sculptures are sold but you can also find current auctions of the ones I am selling. Iterested
in a particular item? I can provide bigger / more pictures; please note I own copyrights to all my artwork and images of it.
I do take requests for custom sculptures. If interested, you can contact me through eBay where you can check out my feedback
and view my current auctions. If you do not have an eBay account you can sign up for one or use my contact page. An eBay account

I have always been interested in art and animals and have worked in many mediums. My current interest
is needle felting. Currently, I am focusing on needle felted animals and polymer clay sculptures
Working with real animals has helped in designing my artwork. Inspiration comes from real life and photos including
pets, animals at the zoo, animals seen on nature walks, and homeless animals at the pound. Experience
grooming dogs and cats has carried over to my needle felted pets.
Wool working such as knitting and needle felting have recently gained in popularity. Most felters and other fiber
artists interested in wool working are already familiar with the wet felting technique. Many people are
just learning about needle felting. However, the art of needle felting, which is a dry technique, actually isn't as new
an art form as it seems, but it has recently gained popularity through the internet.
I really like the lifelike realism that can be achieved through this soft sculpture art form. I take requests,
the cat at right was sculpted using photos of a real pet :)

What is needle felting?
Unlike stuffed animals, needle feltings are not sewn together. Needle felted sculptures are sculpted using only special barbed
needles; a soft felting pad works as a protective base to hold the sculpture's fibers while felting and working with
the sharp needles. Some felters may use other tools to hold the material in place but the sculpting is done
souly through the stabbing of the needle through the fibers. The felting needles catch tiny scales on
the fibers and allow them to be locked into place, in this way any scaled fiber can be used as a sculpting medium.
Even something smooth as silk can be felted into the scales of wool; although silk does not felt well by itself, it can be
felted onto a wool core.
Many fibers have tiny scales, even human hair, which can be seen under high magnification. The ease of felting
a fibre depends on these scales and how well they catch on the felting needle and each other in order to be locked
into place.
Most felters use wool roving, natural sheep's wool obtained from shearing sheep. Some use soft mohair,
obtained from shearing an angora goat, or silk overlays. I have also tried felting other materials, such as yarn,
with varied results. Other artists use fur, also obtained from giving an animal a hair cut, or from brushing
out excess fur as with regular grooming. As needle felting is done with fibers only, and does not require
the hide or skin of an animal, fibers are obtained through harmless ways.
When washed clean and dried these fibers can easily be felted onto a ball of wool. If you save some brushed
fur or hair clippings from your pet's recent grooming, fur from your pet can be incorporated into a sculpture of their
likeness.
My current soft furry felted figures and hard polymer clay sculptures are being sold on eBay. I use wool, mohair, very soft
fine acrylics, and sometimes silk when needle felting. See some examples of my work below. The Chinese Shar
Pei puppy dog is an earlier experimentation work of needle felted yarn. Yarn captured the wrinkled look of
the breed.

These are examples of different types of posability. The Lynx has been needle felted over a wire
armature, the bunny is 6 way jointed. Other animals I have done with a wire armature include the Black Maned White
Lion, a Tiger , Polar
Bear, White Marmoset Monkey, and the Panda and a Jack Russell Terrier dog. Some are seen in the long
photo at the top, others below, or in the gallery. Most of my needle feltings so far have used the alternative method
for poseability, 5 way or 6 way thread jointing. See more pictures on the Special Techniques page.
