You new cadets probably have some questions.
What exactly is JROTC?
-JROTC is a course where a student is taught military courtesy and conduct alone with drill and ceremony.
Are cadets required to wear the uniform?
-The cadets are required to wear the uniform, you earn as many points as you would if you wer taking a test so WEAR IT!!!
How often are the uniform worn?
-The JROTC uniform is worn once a week on Thrusday unless we are told otherwise, then we will wear the battalion t-shirt.
What is taught in class?
-Drill and Ceremonies, first aid, how to read a compass, rifle marksmanship and safety, and leadership.
WIll there be any homework?
-Sometimes, but not any more than your other classes.
Is a student who joins JROTC required to join the Army?
-No, but if you're planning on joining the Army, or any other service , we highly recommend that you join the class.
JROTC Teams
How would you like to be a part of a team that travels all over Phoenix, Texas, and Florida to compete in front of thousands of people. Then the Bruins Rifle Drill Team  lead by Wayne Corricelli is probably for you. And if that doesn't sound like it's for you then how about Rattlers?
Rattlers is the Adventure team that starts practice at 5:30 am and competes against other schools in PT (physical training), rappelling, and other events and is lead by Elijah Flores. If that doesn't sound right here is Color Guard too!
Color Guard travels with the drill team and presents our nations colors (the American Flag) and our state colors or the P.O.W flag. Color Guard has a couple of teams with different commanders. If none of those sound good to you then why not the Rifle Team?
The Rifle Team competes against other schools and take trips for completions also. They shoot with CO2 powered rifles at our very own rifle range in the Industrial  Tech Building. Everyone will get a chance to try out with the air pump rifles later.
These are the teams we have in the TGB JROTC program. Practice starts soon and we hope that everyone can come out for these teams.
September 11th Ceremony
On September 11th we hold a ceremony to honor what happend on that tragic day. The ceremony normally starts at 7:30 am and will be held in front of the school. At the ceremony the colors will be presented and the band will play patriotic songs.
Practice for the teams
Practice has started for the JROTC teams. Rattlers practice starts at 1500 (3:00 pm) and the first Varsity completion is in September, so if you think you can make varsity start coming now.
Drill Team has there practice starting in September and practice is from 1500 (3:00 pm) to 1700 (5:00 pm) The first couple of days are always the hardest so don't be late.
Color Guard starts on the 17th of August and plans to go to Long Beach, California in October, so if you want to go on Color Guard that's when they start.
Rifle Team practice for Varsity also starts on the 17th of August and everyone else must wait until the day the classes go to the range.
In the classroom
In this month of JROTC we will be learning all the basics about Drill and Ceremonies. You will be taught things like right face, left face, about face, etc. This month you'll also be learning everything about JROTC, like what it means and what it is about. Soon you will be getting your uniforms and then you will be taught how to where them. You also get to learn how to work together with specific exercises. This is what you will be learning this month in JROTC.
Know your staff
Staff are the people that take care of a lot of the paper work like your ribbons and awards, the news letter, training schedule. The postions go from S-1 to S-5.

September 2004

September 11th Ceremony
The September 11th Ceremony will actually be held on September 10th due to the fact that September 11th is on a Saturday. The ceremony is normally held at 0730 (pending approval) and will include patriotic music by our TGB Band, and a flag raising ceremony. So be there to support our country with this ceremony.
Drill Team Practice Starts!
The first drill team meeting was on the 2nd of September at 1500. We discussed team rules and practice schedules. The team competes in both armed (with weapons) and unarmed drill (without weapons), both ladies and gentlemen are welcome to join.
Color Guard Practice
Color Guard has started and all are welcome. Color Guard will help you march with precision and is a great new way to meet new friends. The first competition for color guard will be in California the weekend of October 22-24 All those interested in carrying our National and State colors are welcome to join Color Guard.
Rattlers Competition
Rattlers are working hard and have started weight training in preparation for the first phase of their annual competition. All cadets who can wake up at 0500 and get to school at 0530 are welcome to participate. . No one has to try out, and no one can be cut, all you have to do is show up. Once your in shape, Rattlers is probably one of the most exciting teams you can be on. This team is all about training, and a good way to test your limits. They rappell down cliffs, build rope bridges, do push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, run and more! So if you like to push yourself and want to make varsity, join Rattlers before the first competition and bring a change of clothes and stuff for the shower.
Inside the classroom
In the classroom this month we will be learning all about Drill and Ceremonies; foward march, rear march, flanking, and column movements right out of FM 3-21.5. We will also be learning about the winning colors, left brain, right brain, and everybody's favorite, marksmanship. You will be taught the three basic shooting positions and all about pump air rifles. That's what you will be learning in the month of September.
Jokes of the Month
GIVING SAD NEWS TO A TROOP
The Captain called the Sergeant in "Sarge, I just got a telegram that Private Jones' mother died yesterday. Better go tell him and send him in to see me."
So the Sergeant calls for his morning formation and lines up all the troops. "Listen up, men," says the Sergeant. "Johnson, report to the mess hall for KP. Smith, report to Personnel to sign some papers. The rest of you men report to t he Motor Pool for maintenance. Oh by the way, Jones, your mother died, report to the commander."

But whatever you prefer make sure you have fun, stay safe, and don't talk to strangers. Oh and check your candy too!
