The Berzerker, known as the musician that made two remixes for Morbid Angel, releases (or unleashes) his
debut album. Horrid and unbearably fast, The Berzerker has made a unique sound based on the electronic percussions and grinding
riffs. The voices are three different growls, ranging from a Carcass-like voice to a deeper tone, that resound along the 13
first songs. We are reminded of Carcass again because of the samples featured inside the songs: voices telling us about death,
murder, dismemberment or mutilation. Acording to The Berzerker himself (or should I say itself?) the sampling was taken from
real medical videos. There isn't a fixed song structure, ranging from a unceasing beating like "Mono Grind" or "Ignorance",
to a more organized songwriting like "Forever" or "Pain". And here is one of the flaws of this album: the simple structure
of the songs take lasting power from them. But one must take his time to get used to the brutal sound, so it is after you
don't have to worry about how destructive this LP is that you'll worry about the lasting power. The album goes down a little
bit after "Slit Down" with the "ballad" "February". The next tracks are brutal enough to be useless. "Humanity" raises a little
bit the level of quality; it features a slow riff along a slow drumming without vocals. After that, the strange part begins.
"95" and "Ode To Nash" are undefinable tracks based on keyboards, samplings and the sickest screams I have ever heard. "95",
song title based on a terrible accident that ocurred to The Berzerker him(it)self, still holds some rhythm, but I can't definitevely
stand "Ode To Nash" full-lenght. I may bear 2 minutes, but no more than that. It is indeed too much.
The Berzerker's S/T is one of the most rabid grindcore/death metal releases this year, in the light of an
interesting ideology: a hatred for humanity so pure that inspires. I found some flaws, like the abuse of the electronic set
of drums. I think it should be compensated with more real drumming. The songwriting is good, but it can get better. A forty-minutes
album may seem as a short one, but every second is full of brutality.
