Byron was a gold medal Olympic boxer in the Berlin Games and was starting a promising professional career when Canada entered WW 2. One day, he ran into a pitched battle between All-American and some Brown Shirts just over the border. Heedless of the danger, he plunged headlong into the fray at the side of the outnumbered hero. After helping All-American take them into custody, he spoke aloud his wish to fight the Nazis and of his being too young to join the service. All-American was impressed with the lad’s conviction and ability to handle himself and suggested a rather unorthodox way to fulfill his wish by making him his sidekick. After suitable training in which he excelled, he was code-named Kid Canada.

Inspired by All-American, whenever possible he strives to emulate his hero and inspire his fellow Canadians in much the same manner.
