Background/History:
The Wagner family had emigrated to the US in the mid-1800's. Frederic had noble Germanic roots and his wife was from Russian nobility. They were very aristocratic and wealthy enough to live almost like royalty here. They lived in a mansion in upstate New York with the Millers who were their handyman and cook and the Jefferson who was their groundskeeper and maid. Dr. Ivanovitch Koloff, a distant cousin of Wilhelmina, had come to the States to speak at Harvard and Yale. He came to visit and found his cousin was nearly ready to have a baby. He had been working with various chemical compounds and vitamins designed to improve physical strength and stamina, so he passed on some of his pills to her. The effect was astounding. She felt so much better and stronger, the debilitating effects of her condition were virtually gone. In a short span of months, the Millers and Jeffersons also became pregnant and the pills were passed on to them to help them through. No one thought of any possible effects on the unborn children at the time. The children seemed normal at birth and all was well until they were toddlers. Each, in turn, began displaying odd symptoms. William had headaches, his hair turned white, and people he was angry with got headaches as well. Rusty seemed to have a consistent fever to go with his hot temper. Lucas was always cold and, as he got older, it seemed colder wherever he was at. As a matter of fact, strange occurrences became more and more commonplace around the three boys as they aged. Shunned by their peers, the three became like brothers. Eventually, the local townsfolk became consumed with fear fed by fanciful rumors of witchcraft and demon children. Storming the mansion like a scene from Frankenstein, the townsfolk intended to run the Wagners and their servants away. The elder Wagner had no intention of abandoning his land or his people and a fight broke out. The boys broke away from their mothers to help their fathers. No one could be sure how the fire started, although some of the survivors said that a fiery demon appeared when Michael Miller fell. The conflagration surged out of control and, when it was over, the mansion was rubble and the children's parents, as well as many of their attackers, were dead. The boys had apparently vanished. Inspired by the acceptance of the super-heroes in the Lords of Liberty and the debut of Kid Canada, the boys volunteered to join the Army and, after demonstrating their abilities, were sent to meet the Lords. They fought bravely through the war until the untimely deaths of Red and Blue during the last desperate battle against the assembled Nazi villains. White, who had been mercilessly tortured psychologically by Dr. Morte earlier and had taken on a more bitter edged attitude, nearly snapped when his friends were killed. He intended to see every villain dead, but Mystery Man and the team insisted that they be placed under arrest and tried for their war crimes. The hero known as White disappeared that day and was never heard from again.

Personality/Motivations:
Their personalities were mirrored by their powers. Red was the hot tempered one, always ready to fight.  White was the thoughtful, cautious member of the trio. Blue was always cool under pressure. They saw super-heroics as a way to be accepted and used every ounce of effort they could muster in the defense of freedom and tolerance.
