Background/History:
The Drake family possessed a strong natural link to and affinity for magic going
back to medieval days. Historically, every other generation birthed a powerful
mage and they almost always used their talents for good. Entering into the
present day, their blood lines had weakened and, although most had at least some
natural wild mage ability, none were truly powerful. Alex and his older brother,
Theo, could manipulate energies and do minor magics. Theo was jealous of his
younger brother having a stronger bond to the power and an easier time using it.
Then, to add insult to injury, Alex had almost no interest in using his gifts,
while Theo studied magic and alchemy nigh unto maniacally to increase his
talents. When Alex, the accountant, married Theresa, the receptionist, he
declared that he was all grown up and magic had no place in his nice, normal
life. His wife had no idea of his family history and Theo had stopped having any
real contact with his brother years before. When Alexandria was born, Theo
reappeared and demanded to test the baby to find out if she was blessed with
power. An argument quickly escalated into a fight and Theresa was shocked to see
her husband hurling lightning from his fingertips at a brother she never knew he
had. After running his brother away, Alex attempted to explain it all to his
wife, but she refused to accept any of it. He had lied to her, endanger her
child, and had freakish powers. All that and a psycho brother-in-law was more
than she could take, so she took the child and left. She changed their name and
started a new life. Alex became disillusioned and depressed, merely going to
work to make a living. Sara grew up in a nice middle-class, single parent home,
believing her father had died in an accident. Strange things had a tendency to
happen around her as she matured, light bulbs exploding in her hand, flames
burning brighter in her presence, and so on. On her 18th birthday, her life
changed forever. Uncle Theo kidnapped her by teleporting away as she blew out
the candles on her cake. Her father, allowed to attend as a family friend under
the condition of keeping his true relationship a secret, used his magic to
follow him. The battle was fierce and during the fight, Sara learned the truth
that had been kept from her. Her uncle disappeared when the fight turned bad.
Alex had to explain everything to his startled daughter. As her mother had
reacted to the truth years before, so to did Sara. She stormed away from her
parents, changed her last name, and determined to have a life free from lies.
She learned to use her powers, powers greater than her father had, and began a
career as a super-heroine. Another attack by her uncle led to a battle that drew
the attention of the Attack Squad, who helped her defeat him and locked him up.
When the team expanded it’s roster, she was invited to join, accepted, and
took the codename Sorceress.
Personality/Motivations:
Sara grew up as a quiet, studious youngster interested in literature and
history. She studies those topics in college with the intent of running an old
book store someday. The sense of responsibility that seemed to have been a
family trait is strong in her and she uses her research talents to find ways to
master her mystical talents for good.
