Background/History:
John Samson and Susan Williams met in college and, with their mutual interest
in atomic research, became a happy couple, and worked together. Offered a
lucrative grant by Jason Carter, they were set to make history until Carter
became infatuated with Susan. They had no way of knowing that Carter was
unbalanced and when Susan rebuffed his advances, he became livid with a jealous
rage. He booby trapped their laboratory having decided that if he could not have
her, no one would. The resulting explosion should have killed them both, but
John had unknowingly received Pomash’s genetic alteration and, instead of
killing him, it activated his latent powers. His powers of regeneration were
taxed by the radiation that infused his body, leaving him in a burned,
cinder-like skeletal state. He went after Carter and the sight of him put the
unbalanced murderer completely over the edge into the abyss of insanity. There
was ample evidence of his crime and with him being mentally unfit, his lawyers
gave control of his assets to John to avoid a lawsuit. Once he mastered his
abilities, he decided to seek out Destructor Force since they had little
energy-based offensive abilities. He rushed into a battle, thinking to take care
of it himself and the team had to save him, but he learned a valuable lesson in
teamwork. He stayed with the group until he contracted cancer. His powers
eventually beat the cancer, but he had devoted so much of his time to working
with Freak Town that he decided to continue that full time, eventually being
elected mayor. He is currently considering running for the Senate. If a big-time
wrestler could become a governor, why couldn’t a former super-hero go to
Congress?
Personality/Motivations:
He is a very goal oriented person, driven to succeed. Whether in his studies, as
a super-hero, or in politics, he will strive to be the best he can be.
