Background/History:
Adam was a child with his head in the stars, fascinated with science fiction and astronomy. He wanted to grow up to be an astronaut and trained from childhood to learn the skills necessary. His family had come over from Russia in the early days of WW 2, changing their name to Blake. His grandfather had received a good luck charm from his father that was to be handed down to the firstborn on his eighteenth birthday. It was a rock on a chain. Sometimes, at night, it showed a faint glow from inside, traces of a dull blue light visible through the cracks. What Adam’s great-grandfather had never revealed was where it came from, he merely said it was lucky. The truth was he had been a soldier in the Czar’s army and had been one of the men who investigated the great Tunguska explosion. He had kept this strange remnant for himself. Adam got the odd necklace on his 18th birthday according to family tradition. He celebrated that birthday by going hang gliding. He loved hang gliding as high as possible, as if he could fly to the stars. He was flying high, dangerously high, when he caught an unexpected and very strong updraft. He felt the temperature drop and the air thinning, then suddenly, he felt fine. He could not understand it at first, thinking perhaps he experiancing something similar to the euphoria a drowning man feels. Then, he saw that he was blue. Not asphixation blue, not freezing cold blue, he was covered head to toe in a blue force field. He tried to regain control of his glider, but the updraft had been replaced by a down draft that shredded the fabric of the glider. He struggled to free himself from the crippled equipment, but to no avail. Tangled in fabric, wires, and the framework, he didn’t stand a chance of freeing his parachute. Then, under his blue sheath, the rock glowed brightly, he felt a surge of energy shooting along his skin, and a burst of energy shot through the entangling scraps of the glider. Freed from that, he attempted to get into a proper freefall position to use his parachute. He seemed to have greater control over his flight than he was accustomed to, but he didn’t think much about it at the time. He got in position and pulled the ripcord. Nothing happened, he yanked it again, it came off in his hand, he looked at his back, the blast that had freed him from the glider had also blown off his parachute. Then, he centered himself. He focused past the panic, he was going to die one day after his 18th birthday, but wait. This blue thing and the energy burst from the rock, it was like a comic book and all the cool super heroes can fly. What did he have to lose? A quick prayer and a solemn vow to use these powers for good, if they were real, and he tried to fly. Suddenly, sparks appeared behind him, like a comet’s tail and he flew. Landing safely, he kept his vow and learned to master the abilities he received, using them to help people with the Freedom Brigade. The only downside to his gift is that he cannot remove the necklace for more than a few seconds at a time without becoming deathly ill.

Personality/Motivation:
He was always a study in contradictions. On one hand, studying the stars like a bookworm, on the other, doing death defying hobbies like hang gliding, rock climbing, and bungee jumping. Seeming born without fear, he studies the stars by day and fights crime by their light at night.
