Background/History:
During the 50’s, Det. ‘Dare’ Collins and costumed heroine Earth Angel had
a love-hate relationship. He felt she was an out of control vigilante and she
kept saving his life when the outrageous risks he took to catch criminals got
the better of him. Naturally, they fell in love. Due to their dangerous
lifestyle, they put off having a family until they were older. By the 70s,
Darren made Assistant Chief and Earth Angel went into semiretirement content to
use her powers in a more secretive manner and to concentrate on a normal family
life. Whether it was genetics or due in some part to her powers, Peggy was very
youthful and healthy, so she finally had a healthy baby boy at the age of 48
roughly 10 years after retiring her costume. Bryan took after his father. He was
tall, strong, and athletic, but normal. He had intended to be a policeman, like
his old man, but his parents hated the idea. They pushed him toward teaching or
law, anything safe, of course, he hated that idea. Everything changed around his
thirteenth birthday, when his mother used her earth manipulation powers to build
a "dirt" castle as she had since he was a baby. She made it to keep in
practice with the powers she seldom used. When he saw it, he raged in that newly
teenaged way, thinking she was treating him like a child. Suddenly, the rocks in
the garden formed a rough dragon shape and destroyed her castle. She screamed
and he passed out. When he came to, his parents were arguing about what to do
with him. He very calmly announced that he was super and he’d do what he
wanted to. The yard rose up, forming a giant hand, and grabbed him tight.
"You may have powers, Son, but I know how to use them." Try as he
might, he could not override his mother’s control. In his undisciplined
efforts, he didn’t notice the beads of sweat and look of determination on her
face as she maintained that control. They taught him to use his abilities and as
he gained discipline with his powers, he realized what his parents had done with
their lives and how he wanted to follow in their footsteps. His powers differed
from his mother’s in that he could do things that affected him physically such
as transforming his skin to a rock like substance and increasing his strength.
Taking his cue from his rocky skin, he took the name, Gibraltar. When the Legacy
formed, he contacted them, wanting to be around people who were young and
dealing with the same issues he had to.
Personality/Motivations:
Bryan took his lessons very seriously once he realized how much damage he could
do acting recklessly. Not being careful once knocked out the entire power grid
for his neighborhood because accidentally he ripped up underground power lines.
He takes following in his parent’s footsteps very seriously, but he is still
young and likes to have fun. He takes too many chances to keep his parents
happy, however, a trait he picked up from his father.
