Background/History:
Born to a middle class family in Toronto, Walter lived a typical uneventful life
until he turned thirteen. He grew ill and fevered for no apparent reason. The
severity of his symptoms would vary, but seemed to worsen with age. None of the
medical doctors he went to could find any reason for his symptoms, so his mother
contacted her brother who served as a doctor in the military and had some
experience with superhuman physiology. Dr. Roth was intrigued, but doubted he
could do anything. He used some top secret, classified equipment used to gauge
superhuman power levels and the boy was off the chart. Roth tried using a simple
energy draining restraint device and the boy began firing huge amounts of
bio-electrical energy into it. Absorbing much more energy than it was designed
to handle caused the device to overheat and explode. When the smoke cleared,
Roth thought he must have hit his head because he saw two Walts. In stereo, they
asked their uncle if he was all right, then each became aware of the other.
Speaking simultaneously, everyone quickly realized they were exact duplicates
right down to their thoughts. Walter figured out that he could concentrate and
telepathically communicate with his double. Then, he decided to try something
else. They both concentrated on rejoining and became one. How he gained his
power remains a mystery, but he can generate powerful bio-electrical blasts and
use that energy to effectively clone himself. With their mental link, the two
can coordinate their blasts with extreme efficiency. When the government began
to look for superheroes to form a team, Roth suggested Walter should join up, so
he became a charter member of Northern Light taking on the codename Deuce.
Personality/Motivations:
Walter was a bright, but unfocused teen. He had no idea what he wanted to do
with his life other than he wanted to be better off than his parents. His uncle
suggested the military, but that seemed too restricting. The government
sponsored, but not entirely controlled status of Northern Light suits him just
fine. He could learn how to use his abilities and help people. He continues his
education, still trying to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up.
