Background/History:
Carl Jacobs was a chemist who specialized in nutrition and became fascinated
with the potential of steroids and such to create incredible physical specimens.
He worked tirelessly for years creating various concoctions to stimulate muscle
growth. He had every intention of having a son who would be the strongest man in
the world or the greatest athlete ever seen. Fate had slightly different plans.
When his wife became pregnant, he secretly laced her food with chemicals to
improve his baby. His first disappointment was discovering the baby was a girl.
Whether due to his interference or just her health, his second disappointment
was that she would be unable to have another child. This caused him to become
somewhat unbalanced. He refused to admit that they were having a girl. Victoria
thought he would get over it, but he simply got worse. After she was born, he
still refused to allow her to be dressed as or treated like a girl. He continued
secretly using her as a guinea pig as if he could somehow chemically transform
her into a son. She responded to his treatments by growing quickly, almost
freakishly, and he forced her to follow a heavy regimen of physical training and
weight lifting. By the age of twelve, she was nearly six feet tall and over 250
pounds of muscle. Years of arguing reached a head when there could be no
disguising the fact that Veronica was a girl and a huge argument between her
parent ensued. Her father accidentally knocked her mother down the steps of
their home, just as Veronica burst in to find out what was going on. Thinking
that her father had intentionally hurt her mother brought all the repressed
anger against him to full boil, she grabbed him and threw him through a wall
before her mother got her attention. The police arrived and the situation was
explained. Her mother had accidentally fallen, her injuries caused her to pass
away after weeks of operations. The strain of all of it caused her father to
break down and his heart gave out within months. With no other relatives,
Veronica became a ward of the state and her strength was brought to the
attention of those who were putting together the team called Northern Light.
Since her parents death, all she had done was study and train...and grow. She
topped out at almost seven feet tall and over 350 pounds. Her strength and
toughness were well into superhuman levels and the government scientists helped
maximize the effects of her father’s unorthodox experimentation making her on
of the strongest individuals in the world using the codename "Virago".
Personality/Motivations:
Somewhat shy and reserved, Veronica wants to use her powers to atone for losing
her temper and hurting her father, but she is very cautious. Her reserve only
falters when she is made fun of about not being feminine and all the bad
memories of her father’s treatment threatens to push her over the edge.
