Bolipata begun his studies at the age of eight with Oscar Yatco as a scholar of
Stella G. Brimo. On Yatco’s departure, he continued his studies with Basilio
Manalo and Rizalina Buenaventura. At twelve, he won First Prize at the NAMCYA,
subsequently leaving for the United States with a scholarship to study with the
eminent pedagogue Dorothy Delay at the Julliard School of Music, James Buswell
at Indiana University, and Jascha Brodsky at the New School of Music. As soloist
he has been heard in recitals and concerto appearance all over Asia, including a
tour with the Beijing Philharmonic in China and as Philippine representative to
the Jakarta International Chamber Music Festival. He was also active in musical
communities throughout the United States performing in over 70 Community Concert
between the East and West Coasts.
As a chamber musician he
has been a member of the Bolipata Trio with his brothers Jaime (piano) and Ramon
(cello) for over a decade touring extensively in the United States, Germany and
Italy. The Trio was featured on Bod Shermani’s Listening Room on WQXR in New
York and was a regular feature at the Beethoven Festival in New York. He has
also appeared as guest artist in several chamber music recitals and festivals,
including the Pensacola Chamber Music Festival in Florida and the Festival de
Saint Nazaire in France. In 1991, he co-founded the Gavin Strings Quartet which
was one of the quartet chosen to participate in the 1993 Festival of the Arts at
the Banff Center for the Arts in Banff, Canada. The quartet was chosen to attend
numerous quartet seminar, including the Delware Winter String Quartet Seminar
and the
Julliard Quartet Seminar. In 1992, he was the recipient of a National Endownment
for the Arts Grant to form the Keats Piano Trio which served a nine-month
residency in Kansas. Upon his return from Kansas, Coke designed
and founded
CASA
San Miguel and started all its programs, bringing a wealth of artists from
around the world in the fields of dance, theater, visual arts and music.
