I loved the Twin Towers and how they rose majestically above the skyline. They were a symbol of power, financial wealth and modern architectural determination to conquer the elements. Photographed from all conceivable angles, they were an image, an icon for an age: Tall, strong, invincible. I was fortunate to discover a whole interior world of forms within the WTC complex. Views out of windows, views through causeways, the lens of my camera framing architectural elements creating artistic compositions.

The images on these pages reflect this journey of my eye and camera through the labyrinth of this exciting environment. The subway station shots were done April of 2001 and the others summer of 1993.

subwaystation1.jpg

This was the underpass to uptown/downtown of the N/R subway line. It ran right under the World Trade Center.

The artist's work was done in a beautiful glaze and covered the walls, ceiling and pillars.

A view of the North Tower from the Custom's House connection to the North Walkway.

In the 90's NYC started redoing many of its subway stations with artists' works in mosaics and ceramic tile.

This is a view, as seen from the lobby of the North Tower, of the glass dome of the Winter Garden and the North Walkway that connected the World Trade Center with the World Financial Center.

Another view of the North Tower. The huge American flag always hung prominently in the over 3 story high lobby area.
