Though the towers didn't collapse on to WFC 1 or the Winter Garden, the imploding debris did much damage. The Winter Garden's glass roof was demolished and dust and debris blew into this space injuring the majestic palm trees. There are plans to rebuild this space, but as all things change, its original splendor will be hard to recapture!

The World Financial center is undamaged except for broken windows and some cracked facades. However, its vitality came from people moving about, shopping, enjoying the view of the Hudson River. It will be a long time before the street level stores can be reopened because they took the heaviest damage of the dust cloud.

Winter Garden glass wall looking out onto the Hudson River. Live palm trees were planted throughout. The area facing the river was also used as a performance area at night with a stage and backdrop set up against the glass.

Some of it was quite massive like this piece in the lobby of one of the connecting areas between World Financial Center 1 and the Winter Garden.
