This month's theme focuses on the aspect of Fushigi Yuugi most of us are very familiar about: its fandom. First, a definition of the word. What is Fushigi Yuugi fandom and how do we describe it?
The bottomless abyss of Fushigi Yuugi fandom--once you get sucked in, you can never escape. ::Tomo-like cackling::
A fandom refers to a community of fans, all of whom are geared towards a specific thing, in this case, Fushigi Yuugi. The fact that you're reading this page is evidence that you've had something to do with the fandom because you came here from another webpage, or you'd heard about it on a mailing list or from another fan.
By the very nature of its definition, a fan-based community is built by fans for fans.
Falling into the depths of FY fandom...
This could be you instead of Amiboshi.
We create mailing lists to share our ideas and discussions, websites to express our opinions, fanfiction and fanart to showcase our creative outlets, and more. And that's only on the Internet. What about outside the realm of cyberspace?
The articles that have been submitted for this issue will perhaps give you an idea of the world of FY fandom, how it has affected its fans, both on the Internet and in real life. And maybe, you will see that FY fandom is a bottomless abyss after all.
The opinions expressed here are not those of the editors of this 'zine, nor the creators of FY, or even Tripod.
If you'd like to write an article for this month's theme, either to comment on any of the above articles, or to write a completely new article, please do so! The second deadline for articles is Aug 15th where we will put up all articles received to that date. Sorry, but after the 15th, The Quill will not be updated again until the September issue. So, think about those articles and read the submission guidelines.
