The English Section of the school is designed to prepare students for advanced studies at the universities and colleges of the UK, the USA, Europe and other Arab countries. Students undergo rigorous testing before admission into the English Section of the school. They must be bilingual (Arabic and English) in order to be accepted. English, Mathematics, Sciences and Computer Studies are taught in English. Arabic, Religion, Primary Social Studies, Art, Music and Physical Education are taught in Arabic. Secondary Social Studies is taught in both Arabic and English.

Those subjects taught in Arabic comply with the Ministry of Educations regulations for secondary education, while the courses taught in English satisfy the curriculum demands for the International General Certificate in Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations offered through the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES). YMS students sit these exams at the close of their tenth year. Currently, students prepare for the following IGCSE subject examinations:

First Language Arabic
English as a Second Language
Mathematics
Coordinated Sciences (double award)
Computer Studies
Geography

After completing the IGCSE curriculum, students in class twelve begin A-level studies in Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics while continuing the Ministry of Educations curriculum in both Arabic and Religion.

Upon successful completion of the program, students in both the Arabic and English Sections are awarded the Yemeni Ministry of Educations Certificate of Secondary Education. From its earliest beginnings, the Yemen Modern School has been proud to boast that its students consistently score in the top ranks of the national examinations.

In addition to the above, students completing the program of the English Section of the school are required to enter the IGCSE subject examinations. This internationally recognized certificate serves to prepare students for advanced studies here in Yemen or abroad.  Successful completion of the above subjects qualifies YMS students for the International Certificate in Education (ICE) offered by UCLES.
