Mac OS 8.1 Update - updates Mac OS 8.0 to Mac OS 8.1. Includes bug fixes and feature enhancements.
QuickTime 4.0.3 - For viewing, playing, editing most all types of media. QuickTime 4 features streaming of live and stored video and audio over the Internet. Includes an all new QuickTime Player that offers easy access to QuickTime content, and significant enhancements to the QuickTime PictureViewer application and QuickTime Web Browser Plug-in.
MRJ 2.1.4 - Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) 2.1.4 is an upgrade to MRJ 2.1.3. It fixes two severe bugs that affected Java applications, but not applets. In some Java applications, windows would occasionally disappear or become non-functional. · Quitting a Java application would occasionally cause another application to quit, or a file opened by another application to close. This would happen only when the second application had been launched, or the file opened, after MRJ opened a window.
Drive Setup 1.7.3 - This version includes improved reliability for Ultra ATA transfers on G3 Blue and White machines. Drive Setup installs software (called a disk driver) that allows your computer to communicate with the hard disk. Use Drive Setup 1.7.3 to update your disk driver or to reinitialize a disk. When you initialize a disk, all of its contents are erased. IMPORTANT Earlier versions of Drive Setup can reintroduce issues resolved with Drive Setup 1.7.3.

LocalTalk PCI 1.2 - Requires: Power Macintosh G3-based CPUs (except G3-based PowerBooks) and the following models of PCI desktop CPUs: 7200, 7300, 7500, 7600, 8200, 8500, 8600, 9500, and 9600. - Apple Workgroup Server 7250, 7350, 8550, 9650 and Macintosh Server G3. - For CPU speeds between 100MHz and 180MHz, you must have L2 cache memory present; for CPU speeds from 200MHz and greater, L2 cache memory is optional. resolves a problem where certain LocalTalk printers would not show up in the Chooser. Resolves a problem where the mouse would respond erratically when the computer is communicating with LocalTalk devices. Resolves an issue with AppleShare IP networking where the server may crash under high load.

Provides one-click operation for capturing still frames or video clips Supports movie compression, closed captioning, and Teletex reception (Europe only). This version corrects a freeze frame problem with QuickTime 3.
Disk First Aid 8.2 - For 68040 and PowerPC-based Macintosh computers using Mac OS 8.1. Disk First Aid 8.2 has been tested only with the U.S. English version of Mac OS 8.1. Disk First Aid is a utility that verifies and repairs some problems that may occur on your hard disk drive. This version of Disk First Aid repairs some kinds of damage to a Mac OS Extended volume caused by disk repair utilities that are not compatible with Mac OS Extended format. Note that Disk First Aid may not be able to repair all problems caused by incompatible disk repair utilites, but it will make the hard disk icon available on the desktop again, so that the hard disk can be reformatted and the data restored from backup.
SerialDMA 2.1 - For Power Macintosh 4400, Power Macintosh 5500, Power Macintosh 6500, Twentieth Aniversary Macintosh, Power Macintosh 7220, Power Macintosh G3, PowerBook 2400, PowerBook 3400, PowerBook G3, or PowerBook G3 Series. Includes version 2.1 of the SerialDMA extension, which supplies a replacement serial driver for a specific set of Mac OS computers. This new driver fixes an incompatability that prevents certain serial devices, such as digital cameras, from establishing an initial connection. If you are using one of the Mac OS computers listed above, and you are using a serial device which cannot establish an initial connection, you should install this update.
Open Transport 1.3.1 - The OT 1.3 to 1.3.1 Update application may be used with any Mac OS compatible computer and Mac OS 8.1. Some utility software will report files in Mac OS 8.1 as damaged or corrupted. Although these files are not actually damaged, using this application will upgrade these files so they are no longer reported as damaged or corrupted. Use of this OT 1.3 to 1.3.1 Update application is optional and is not required. Use of this application will only correct how these files are viewed by certain utility software. Use of this application will not correct any other issues. There is no functional difference between Open Transport version 1.3 and version 1.3.1. Open Transport files with the version number 1.3.1 have simply been resized to remove the extra bytes of unused data. International releases of Mac OS 8.1 do not contain the extra bytes.
Disk Tools for Mac OS 8.1 - Intended for use with Mac OS 8.1 and Mac OS Extended file format. It is provided to you in the event that you need to perform any troubleshooting and you do not have access to the Mac OS 8.1 CD.

Mac OS System 7.6.x Updates

Nearly all Type 11 and Type 112 errors are eliminated. CFM-68K Runtime Enabler included for computers with 68030 and 68040 processors Computers with 68030 and 68040 processors can now use programs that require the CFM-68K Runtime Enabler.

Location Manager 2.0.1 - This software is included on the Mac OS 8.1 CD. It allows you to easily set and use multiple settings configurations, as in for home or for work. 
Open Transport 1.1.2 - Networking software designed to work on Mac OS-compatible computers with a Motorola 68030 or 68040 family microprocessor, or a PowerPC microprocessor. Open Transport is supported on system software versions 7.1, 7.1.1, 7.1.2, 7.5.3, 7.5.5 or later. System software version 7.5.3 or later is recommended.
Open Transport PPP - Allows you to connect your computer to remote TCP/IP networks, such as corporate networks and the Internet, using a modem and the telephone system. Includes control panels for your modem and for Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) as well as onscreen help for using these control panels. (better alternative for PowerMacs than FreePPP or MacPPP)

System 7.5.x Updates
Note: Any 7.5.x system can be updated to 7.5.5 however if you are running 7.5.2 or lower it is a two step process. The first step is to install System 7.5.3 and then you can install the 7.5.5 update.
System 7.5.3 - Full system, not an update. Download this if you do not have System 7.5.x in any form.

Earlier versions of Drive Setup can reintroduce issues resolved with Drive Setup 1.6.1.

PowerPC Interrupt Extension 1.0 - Improve reliability and performance using 7.5.5. You may have experienced your computer freezing for several seconds before returning to normal operation, or completely freezing and requiring a restart. This extension fixes one source of this problem.
CD ROM Software 5.4 - Software that lets you use an Apple CD-ROM drive with your Macintosh computer. Previously only available from Mac OS 8.0, this version includes improved audio CD handling and support for 12x CD-ROM drives used with a PowerBook 1400. 
Mac OS Runtime for Java 1.5.1 - Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) is Apple's implementation of the Java runtime environment based on software from Sun Microsystems, Inc. Mac OS applications adapted to use MRJ can run Java applets and applications. MRJ 1.5.1 is a bug-fix update to MRJ 1.5. MRJ 1.5.1 fixes a security hole that could have been exploited by applets running in web browsers or the Apple Applet Runner. If you are running MRJ version 1.5 or earlier, you need to upgrade to MRJ 1.5.1. MRJ 1.5.1 implements version 1.0.2 of Sun's Java. MRJ 1.5.1 includes Apple Applet Runner, a standalone application that runs Java applets, and Apple Applet Viewer, an OpenDoc viewer you use to put Java applets into OpenDoc documents.
