YOUR QUESTIONS ON YOUR SSS OFW MEMBERSHIP ANSWERED
When does my coverage as an OFW member take effect?
Upon payment of your first contribution.
What will be the basis of my contribution?
The basis of your contribution is your monthly earnings,
computed in Philippine pesos, declared at the time of registration. However,
your monthly salary credit should in no case be lower than P3,000 and the
maximum subject to the prevailing salary ceiling.(The setting of minimum
salary credit at P3,000 is based in the salary of departing OFWs, the minimum
of which is US$200 and alignment with Overseas Workers Welfare Administration's
proposed minimum contribution for Health Care Program.)
Both the employee's and employer's share shall be
paid by the OFW.
Upon arrival of OFW's membership application, the
OFW or the allottee shall pay for the contribution based on the rate provided
for in table of contributions through SSS-accredited collecting banks within
the first five days of the month following the applicable month.
In case of termination of the contract, the OFW may
continue to pay their contributions to maintain his/her right to full benefit.
Can I change my monthly salary credit?
Yes, you are allowed to change your monthly salary
credit once in a given year. You need not present any proof of earnings
if the requested change is only the next higher or lower MSC from your
current MSC. However, if the requested change is more than the next higher
or lower monthly salary credit, you will have to present a copy of your
income tax return for the prior year duly stamped received by the Bureau
of Internal Revenue.
