                                            Gods calling on my life

When I was 7 yrs old in 1948, I remember going to church every Sunday with my Parents, Grandparents, Brother, Sister and the rest of the family that lived in that area. We all went to Bro. Geesons services in an old house by McKinneys ranch in Morongo Valley, California. This is when I gave my heart to the Lord.

My Grandfather and Grandmother lived a block away from where we had lived. My Grandpa John C. Scott had taught Bible School in Los Angeles at Amy McPhersons Church back in the early 1930s; that is where the Four Square Church started. Grandpa Scotts father was the business coordinator at Azusa St. Revival in the early 1900s.

I remember my Grandparents home in Morongo Valley to be a house of Prayer, where Jesus and His word was the basis of everything that went on. When the cow was not giving enough milk, they prayed. When the chickens did not give enough eggs, they prayed. When anyone had a problem or illness they always went there to pray about it. There were a lot of miracles witnessed by family and others in that community.

This was the foundation for me that was built on the name of Jesus Christ and His Word, and I never forgot it.

My Grandfather and I had a special relationship. I told him, if he ever saw me in a fault to please correct me according to Biblical principles. He did this till the day he took a transfer to heaven.

I remember when I was 19 years old riding with him in his car, and he was preaching to me (He would rather preach Gods Word than eat), I was getting ready to go into the Army, and I wanted to get away from him so I could do other things that I wanted to do that did not include Grandpa or God watching Hah!

I served my hitch in the Army and when I got out I was talking to my Grandmother about a wife. I told her that I wanted to find a girl like her that loved the Lord. Grandma told me to pray about it, so I did. I met my future wife by a very unusual way, and God surely answered my prayer! We have been married for over 40 years at this writing. I am blessed beyond measure with her and our 3 children. We were married for about two years when something happened that changed my life. In 1964 I got shot in an accident and was not expected to live. When I was in intensive care the Doctor told me to thank God, because God had to be the reason that I was still alive, but I was not out of the woods yet. They had performed a colostomy on me because of the great damage that the gunshot had caused to my colon. When I was in the hospital for about a month I developed massive thrombosis in both my legs and the Doctor told me he was going to amputate both my legs in ten minutes if he couldnt get the blood to flow. When the Dr. said that I immediately had a vision. The vision showed me a path that I was on and it really scared me; so at one point in the vision I called out to God, HELP! And then the vision went away, and I opened my eyes. At this time the Dr. was checking my vitals and he said welcome back. He told me again to thank God as the blood started flowing again. For 3 days there was a soft cool light in my room that only I could see. I asked the Nurse if they saw a light? They said no, but they could sure feel something as the hair on their arms and neck were standing out, and had goose bumps every time they entered my room.

I had been in the hospital about 6 weeks and they were getting ready to release me to go home. I told the Doctor that I did not want to go home to my wife with this colostomy bag on my side. The Doctor told me that there was no way for me to have another operation, as I was too weak, and could not have another operation for about a year when I would be stronger. I was very upset and told him that I would rather die than go home to a beautiful wife with this bag on my side. The next day my Grandfather and Grandmother came to see me and I told them what the Doctor had said, and would they please pray for me. About three days later I rang the buzzer for the nurse. The nurse came in and wanted to know what I needed? I told her that I needed to have a bowl movement. The nurse told me that it was impossible to have a bowl movement as I had a colostomy. She said it is just a false feeling, and she went away. In about an hour I rang the buzzer again and the nurse came in and said. What can I do for you? I said to her, I really need to have a bowl movement! So to placate me she said, ok! Then she brought me a bedside porta-pottie and told me good luck and closed the curtain. I got out of bed and got on this porta-pottie and I had a large bowl movement. When the nurse came back in and pulled the curtain back, she turned white as a sheet and about passed out! She ran out and called on the intercom for Dr. Rodgers, STAT room 117 STAT. This is a call for an emergency situation, and all nurses and Dr. Rodgers came to my room very fast. They put me on a gurney and took me in a hurry to surgery. They were all scrubbed and ready to operate, as they thought that something had broken loose inside me and would have to try to repair it. They kept taking my temperature and doing x-rays and after about an hour the Doctor said, take him back to his room. After I was settled back in my room, the Doctor came in and asked me if I remembered him telling me to thank God on two other occasions? I said, Yes I do. The Doctor said, Well this is the third time that I am telling you to thank God, as you no longer need a colostomy, God worked another miracle in you.

Well, this is not the end of the story. After all that God had done for me, I still had a lot of things that was not right in me that I needed to deal with, and I asked God to help.

In 1966 I took over my Dads oil field business and was working on a very large contract for Standard Oil in Huntington Beach, California. Prior to this business deal I injured my left leg on the shin, and there was a hole about the size of a dime that would not heal. I went to a very famous plastic surgeon in Los Angeles to have it looked at, and he told me he could fix it in a matter of seven days. I went into the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles for a skin graft on the sore. The Doctor had promised me that I would only be there seven days and I would be good as new. I had the surgery and after three days the Dr. came in to look at the leg. He took the bandages off and found that the operation was a failure because of a staff infection, and now the hole was about the size of a baseball. I was devastated because there was a time limit on this very large contract with Standard Oil. The Doctor performed another operation with no success. After about two weeks I got a letter from Standard Oil that they had to change their plans and use another company to do the work, because they could not wait for me. I left the Hospital after forty days devastated. I went from making good money to welfare. I went to another Doctor in Garden Grove for treatment for this large stasis ulceration on my leg. The Doctor put me in a convalescent home to keep my leg elevated, and put a bag over my leg that was injected with pure oxygen. He also put me on a 600 calorie a day diet for being about 20 pounds over weight. Two weeks went by and I had not lost one pound, and the treatment was very painful and did not help. One day my wife called and said she was coming with her sister to visit me. I told her that I had a gnawing ache in the pit of my stomach, and they were starving me to death; so stop by Bobs Big Boy restaurant and get me one of those huge hamburgers, fries and a strawberry shake. I was really glad to have them come to visit, and glad to get the food. I ate it all! My wife also brought the Bible that my Grandparents had given me. She put it on the bedside table next to the phone. My wife and her sister left to go home, so I turned on the T.V. and nothing interested me, and I nearly wore out the T.V. changer looking for something worth watching. Then, the gnawing in my stomach came back with a vengeance. I tossed and turned that whole night, the next day after a phone call I looked at my Bible and thought about opening it up for a look. Instead I turned on the T.V. and about wore the tuner out again. It seemed that my Bible was haunting me, so I picked it up and opened it to the first page. When this Bible was presented to me, Grandma wrote, May this Bible be a great blessing to you John. When I read this the gnawing grew less. I prayed that God would speak to me by His Word, and I opened to the New Testament and started reading. The more I read the gnawing grew less and less. I could not put the Bible down. In a couple of days I called my wife and told her to come and get me, as I was going home. My wife came with clean clothes and when I was walking out of the hospital the nurse said Mr. Welcher where are you going? I told her I was going home. She said that I would have to sign myself out, and that the Doctor was going to be upset. We left and when I got home I called the Doctor and told him what I had done. He was very upset, but agreed to treat me from home. I had to stay in bed with my legs elevated with that oxygen bag on my leg. I stayed in bed except when I helped my wife with the kids, as she had to work.

I was so hungry for the Word of God that I studied from morning till late at night for about seven months. I was taken on a journey subject by subject, cross-referencing by a concordance as the Holy Spirit led me to what He was teaching me. What a wonderful experience! That was 40 years ago and I am still studying and learning about The Kingdom of God. What a great God and Savior full of Grace and Mercy to ALL His creation. For the last twenty-five years I have been studying Kingdom Bible Studies out of Texas.

In 1986 I was moved on by the Holy Spirit to write about how and where the enemy of Truth operates in our lives. I was led from scripture to scripture as our Heavenly Father was leading me; one of the writings is ANTICHRIST THE SON OF Perdition and it took six weeks. This writing is on this Web Site.

I want to say again, I am blessed above measure with a wonderful believing wife who stuck it out with me for these 40+ yrs. It was not easy for her and our kids either with the ups and downs we went through. But PRAISE GOD, through Him we have the Victory! Through these many years I have learned what is important, and that is to learn about Gods Kingdom and His Grace. The Mystery of ALL ages is Christ IN YOU, the hope of Glory (or, Victory). I went through a lot of suffering and pain, but it turned into a great blessing, as I was released from the cares of this world and was given the time to study Gods Word as the Holy Spirit led me. I would not go back and change what happened for anything in this world. I had been in a pit, and I was not a very nice person and was very immature. Praise God again for His Mercy and Calling. I have not fully obtained the vision God gave me yet, but I am closer. Philippians 1:6  I Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you (and me) will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

I will not quit seeking till I receive the fullness of the vision that God has given me. GOD IS FAITHFUL!

I left out a lot of things trying to keep this as short as possible. May God richly bless you in His Word.

                Sincerely in Christ, John
