30-Something Parents

We welcome all members to the board, you don’t really have to be 30-Something, and you don’t even have to be a parent. You just have to want to have fun and support from a lot of friends.

Although many of our members are dealing with pregnancies, we are not a pregnancy board. We’d love to share in the joy and happiness of your new babies, but you’ll be better served by one of ivillage’s many pregnancy boards for specific pregnancy-related questions. Here are a few to get you started.  Yes, I’m Pregnant!  Pregnant After 35  Labor and Delivery or you could go to Pregnancy and Parenting Message boards and scroll down until you find the appropriate board for you. You can even find playgroups specific to the month your baby is due so you can share developmental milestones with women who are going through the same things you are.

Above all, please contact your doctor or medical professional for medical advice. Call 911 if you feel you have an emergency situation.

If you’d like to add gorgeous signatures to your posts, you can request a simple custom-made image right here on the 30s board, or visit Signature Showcase  for some really beautiful graphics made just for you! Once you have your image saved to your computer, all you have to do is upload it to a web-hosting site, such as photobucket, which is free. Copy the html code and paste it into the signature box in your board settings, located at the top of each board, after selecting html. Then switch back to wysiwyg, and you should see your image. Scroll down and hit submit and you’re all done!

If that’s not enough to keep you busy, join iConnect! At iVillage Connect, you can write a blog, join a group, meet new people, and share photos and videos. To get started with social networking, take a tour and get connected!

Tech Help for Message Boards

To help you become familiar with our board format, here are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about posting on message boards for you first timers:

Q: What's with all the LOL's and ROTFL's?
A: Those are abbreviations. For example, LOL is "laughing out loud" and ROTFL is "rolling on the floor laughing". There are tons of abbreviations on the Internet, and if you hang around long enough, you'll learn most of them.
Some of the most common are:

·         LOL – laughing out loud

·         DH – darling, dear husband

·         DS – darling, dear son

·         DD – darling, dear daughter

·         ROFL – rolling on the floor laughing

·         LMBO – laughing my butt off

·         OMG – oh my gosh

·         BTW – by the way

·         KWIM – know what I mean?

·         GMTA – great minds think alike

You may see some others. If you wonder what they mean, just ask!

Q: Where can I find additional information about posting messages?
A: The message board Help Page is at About Our Boards. You might also want to check out the Rules of Play.

Q: What is a CL?
A: A CL is a Community Leader, a person who monitors the board, greets new members, keeps the conversations flowing and interesting, and has agreed to follow iVillage's  Terms of Service.

Q: Can I just jump in and reply to a message?
A: Sure!!! And if you run into any problems or have any questions, just let me know. You can ask them on the board, or e-mail me privately through my profile.

Q: Why hasn't my message showed up?
A: Depending on how many other people are posting on iVillage at the time, it may take a few seconds for it to appear. You may need to hit "refresh" on your browser to see it.

Q: Why are the messages moving around?
A: The messages with the newest replies are at the top of each folder. That way if someone replies to an old message, it doesn't get missed.

Q: Is there any way to remove all those red dots without going through all the replies?
A: The only way is to go in and view the very last reply of each message.

Q: How do I create a profile?
A: There is a link near the top of the page called "your profile". You must be logged in to see it.
