Need List

Why do we have a NEED LIST? It is because we seek the last bits of information on a certain character to further our goal of gathering all the information on comic-book superheroes from around the world between the years 1936 all the way to 1960.Of course we can't afford to buy every book we shall list here, but with this list we hope YOU, the viewers, can help us locate these books and gather the needed information on these last remaining characters. Our MASTER ALPHA LIST contains almost 1100 entries. While we have a great deal of information on most of these characters, we still need to locate a few items to complete the list. Thus we created the NEED LIST. This is Part One of a three part listing of what characters we still need information on, and what books they appeared in. If you can help locate this information, then you will be helping us in our great cause, to preserve that part of 20th century popular culture known as comic books. So please take a look, excuse the format, and see what you can do to help us out. If you have any of these books or know a store or person who does, please let know. We feel that it is vital that we gather this information, so feel free to contact us anytime. Thanks and see you in the funny papers!

AJAX/FARRELL - RURAL HOME/ENWIL ASS. - & SPARK PUB.

Here is a company that the late Howard Keltner never covered in his
master index of superhero comics. Ajax/Farrell, owned by Robert
Farrell, who use to work for Victor Fox among others, and in association
with a few "partners" (thus the Ajax), launched himself into the comic
book biz in early 1952 and closed his doors in August of 1956.Between
these years Farrell published every conceivable genre possible, except
super heroes, until December/January of 1954-55,and continued for a short
while with several titles ceasing the super hero game in August of
1955.... Often regarded as bottom of the barrel type publisher (no doubt
from his competitors), Farrell none the less was one of the last
independent companies to try super heroes at a time when only DC was
having any success with its mainstays....If anyone wants a compete
list/Time Line of the Ajax/Farrell Super Hero books, just let me
know.....
this is what we still need....

BLACK COBRA
(Note* Supposed reprints of early Black Cobra stories from Star/Novelty
Press books, per Overstreet, which they subsequently changed and said only
issue # 1 was, cover depicts hero, whats on the inside is the question)

COSMO (Partner to ROCKETMAN) Rocketman Comics # 1 (06/1952)

Strange Fantasy Comics # 4 (late 1952,early 1953?) [Is this the same
character as the 1952 Rocketman? is the question here]

SAMSON
(Note* Same story as Black Cobra.... again only issue # 1 is suppose to
be a reprint of old Fox Samson stories, cover depicts hero on inside is
the question here)
Samson Comics #'s 12,13, & 14 (04/55,06/55, & 08/55)

The TORPEDO (MAN?)
Black Cobra Comics # 3 (03/1955)

RURAL HOME/ENWIL were one of the first World War II new comic book
companies...entered the super hero biz in June of 1944,when paper
restrictions were easing.... and went out of the super hero show in March
of 1945.... publishing several different titles, none lasting more than a
few issues.... Rural Home did publish 4 quarterlies in 1946 of stuff
packaged a year earlier.... probably to pay off printing and dist. bills.
as these bore the Publishing titles from Croyden and earlier in the year
from Lindsey L. Baird Inc., and also had an association with Elliot
Publishing Co., the repackager of Double Comics and Double-Up Comics
(another subject entirely!), so here are the stuff we still need from
Rural Home/Enwil.

ownership Novelty Press was a middle sized concern with only a few
