Is there someone available to answer my questions and give me advice on my course selection?

Yes! We have consultants available to help you understand the Ontario School system if you are confused. You may make an appointment to speak to the Principal or Vice-Principal at any time by calling (416) 512.7143. We will also be happy to discuss your particular situation and work out a good plan for you together.

All high school credits taken through TAS are recognized by the ministry of Education for Ontario and can be used to complete your high school diploma (OSSD). The OAC credits can also be used for entrance to universities and Colleges in Canada.

Can I get into university or college using OAC credits earned at TAS?

How do I choose the right level of difficulty?

Grade 9 courses are all new this year. Grade 10 courses were new as of September 2000. Grade 11 courses may be offered at three levels of difficulty: basic, general and advanced. All Ontario Academic Courses (OAC's) are at the advanced level of difficulty. Note: You can take courses at different levels.

What are the basic level courses?

help you prepare for employment or train for a trade
give you practical skills
give you useful information
will not give you the background needed to enter some programs at university or colleges of applied arts and technology

General Level Courses

give you the academic background needed to enter some programs at colleges of applied arts and technology and most training programs
help you prepare for employment
will not prepare you for university

Advanced Level Courses

help you prepare for university or certain programs at colleges of applied arts and technology
develop your academic skills
help you prepare for employment

Ontario Academic Courses (OAC's)

OAC's are advanced level courses, specifically designed to prepare students for university. Ontario universities require six completed OAC's before students are permitted to enroll. As with other TAS courses, OAC credits count towards a secondary school diploma.

Each OAC requires that you successfully complete a prerequisite course before enrolling at the OAC level.

How do I know what prerequisite is required for each course?

If a course requires a certain prerequisite, it is given with the course description. For example, a full credit Grade 11 advanced-level mathematics is the prerequisite for Grade 12 advanced-level mathematics.

Do TAS courses have final exams?

Yes. All credit courses have a final exam. In order to receive your credit, you must successfully complete all units of work and then write and pass the final exam.

How much is the final exam worth?

For full-credit courses, the final exam is worth 20% of your final exam. Each OAC exam is weighed based on course material; however, the standard exam value is 30-40%.
