In 1955 Martin Luther King, Jr. led African Americans to boycott the buses in Montgomery, Alabama. The boycott was only the beginning of the crusade to end the Southern sustem of segregation. More than any other person, King directed the anger of African Americans into a nonviolent movement for social justice.

Traits & Abilities:

For his leadership in the nonviolent fight for equality, King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, the youngest person ever to win the award. While continuing his work for civil rights, King widened his concern to include human rights.
