As the school year of Humanities
class comes to an end, it is only fitting to be able to express yourself in
the manner painters, sculptors, architects, musicians, and writers have been
expressing themselves in their time. The aim of this activity is to provide
a venue where you can bare it all. Part I:
This is the ESSAY portion where you are to express yourself in so many
words. Write about the different aspects that make you you. For example:
physical features, personality, interests, family, etc.. Approximately 2
pages will suffice.
Part II:
Along with your autobiography, include an example for each of the
following disciplines that would best describe who you are. Explain, as
well, why these examples describe you or your personality best.
- Painting - Select one from any time period, any genre. This should be
reflective of your dominant personality. Substantiate your selection with
characteristics like color (warm, cool, bright, dull, etc.), meaning,
composition, subject matter, etc.
- Sculpture - Select one from any time period, any genre. This should be
reflective of your dreams or ambitions. Substantiate your selection with
characteristics like material (glass, metal, wood, concrete, stone, etc.),
position (vertical, horizontal, diagonal), size, meaning, etc..
- Architecture - Select one from any time period, any genre. This should
be reflective of your physical bearing. Substantiate your selection with
characteristics like usage (residential, commercial, institutional, etc.),
style (Modernism, Minimalism, Destructivism, etc.), size (low-rise,
high-rise, split-level, etc.), material finish (curtain wall, concrete,
tensile fabric, etc.), etc..
- Article of Clothing - Select one from any time period, any genre. This
should be reflective of your relationship with your family. Substantiate
your selection with elements like material and its characteristics
(cotton, polyester, wool, lycra, etc.), purpose (underclothing, outdoors,
etc.), qualities (expandable, reversible, etc.), relevance to you, etc..
- Literature - Select one from any time period, any genre. This should
be reflective of your life story. Substantiate your selection with
elements of the style you chose (poetry, meter, rhythm, etc.).
- Song - Select one from any time period, any genre. this should be
reflective of your negative side. Substantiate your selection with
elements like lyrics, meaning, interpretation, instrumentation, performer,
etc..
