A Little Sillyness is in Order!
Mood:  lyrical
Now Playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df53LWQuezQ
Topic: Life

If I could write like Dylan, and sing like Willie,
Every album and song would make the young girls silly,
I'd travel around in my stony bus, and never have reason to grumble or cuss.

If I could take pictures like Galen Rowell,
every body that seen 'em would praise and howl,
The Stars out west would pay me big bucks,
While the Texans drove me around, in their Big Ol' trucks.

If I could write, as well as I cook, every couple o' days would see a new book,
every chapter and verse would be hailed as genius,
guess this is the spot where I mention my Penis?

If I could Pilot, as well as I drive, any wings I wanted would quickly arrive,
I'd meet-up with Jimmy, and some Parrotheads too,
then there'd sure be a party where ever we flew.

If money was bullshit, you know I'd have plenty, I'd light my joints with a ten or a twenty,
I'd roll those hundreds like back in the eighties, and fill my limo with foxy lil' ladies.

If I could write screenplays, the way I do doggerel,
Hollywood wouldn't treat me like a mutt or a mongrel,
I hang with Billy Bob, Smiling Jack, and Samuel Jackson,
and write Ol' Bruce, some Willis-type action. I'd make m. night shyamalan change his name, before I cut him in on my deal-to-fame.
Spielberg and Coppola would know my digits, and the studio brass would start to fidgit !

If I loved Work, like I love Candy, any job on earth would be just dandy,
You'd see me slaving, for a dime or a dollar, and on payday, I'd still Whoop 'N Holler,
and take my check home to my Little Darlin', then tell some jokes like old George Carlin.

If I could realize my fantasies and dreams, I'd teach Mr. Madoff some brand new schemes,
I'd stack up dollars 'til I owned the Chinese, they'd bow and shuffle, saying Mr. Morgan "Please",
don't sell our land to the evil Tiawanese, or North Korea, No, Please Please Please !

A New Cause I've found!
Mood:  special
Now Playing: "Three Cups of Tea" a review.
Topic: Life
As most viewers / readers here know, I'm a constant reader. I've been that way since I was about 5 years old. In recent weeks I've been pretty much housebound, due to no wheels and little money. I've about exhausted my available books, and so, last week I searched through a box of books my Mom sent to Indiana with me for delivery to two of my sisters. Most of these books are ones I sorted out myself, from ones my Mom and sister Carol were giving me. Pretty much defined as "chick books". So, after browsing through a bunch of novels by authors I don't read, I noticed this one book titled "Three Cups of Tea". I had seen this book mentioned on some talk show, and so I read the jacket, and it sounded good*.(* Good in the sense of "good-as-I-can-expect-in-some-chick-books").
The story is about an American guy who grew-up in Tanzania, the son of missionaries who built a health care center, and a school for their African neighbors in Tanzania, back when it was still "Tanzanika". The guy discovered rock-climbing in Northern California, then advanced to mountain climbing. On an expedition to climb K2,(second highest peek in Asia), the guy becomes lost, and sick, and comes pretty well to deaths door, before he finds his way, and reconnects with the Pakistani porter who was taking him down the mountain. Anyway, despite hooking up with the porter, the man becomes lost again, and stumbles into a remote village, starved, sick, and disoriented. The local children guide him into the small village, where he is greeted by the village leader, or as close as a greeting as can be made, since the villagers have never seen an American, a European, nor anyone who lives more than thirty miles away. The only thing they understand is the name of the porter, and his village. The head man sends his son to find the porter, then they share their meager food with the big scary outsider, give him their best blanket, and put him to bed in the honored place,..closest to the fire !
Long story shortened: The man, Greg Mortenson, thanks the people for saving him, and for teaching him some phrases in their language. After seeing 80 children attending "class" in a barren field, using sticks to write in mud, Mortenson promises his benefactor, the Head man, that he will return, and build the children a school.
The story of how he does that, and the troubles he has with the Taliban, local mullahs, and the society in general, is an inspiring, and fascinating tale.
If this sounds at all interesting to you, here's a link to his Organization's web site : https://www.ikat.org/about-cai/
Check it out, and come back and tell me what you think!

Summer's Here !
Mood:  energetic
Now Playing: Summertime Blues
Topic: Life
Today is the second day of summer, and the heat and humidity leave no doubt about that fact.
I have been busy working for my Landlord at his car lot, in an effort to reduce my ever-mounting back rent. Still waiting for the bureaucrats at social security or the VA to give me some money for my PTSD and bad back.
Time is on my side, because the amount they owe me in arrears increases every day, but so does my stress about keeping my house, and having utilities, phone and internet, and such things as that. If I weren't crazy when I began this process, I surely will be by the time it is over.

Spring Thoughts & Weird Ideations

I may not be who you think I am, but really, down deep, does it matter a Damn ?
I'm probably not who I think either, but I'm tryin' to be, so allow me a breather !
I need some time/space, to think and record,
and a spark [ besides business ], that won't leave me cold.

This time of year, things sprout, and begin,
force up to the light, and live once again,
all pulses will quicken, some hormones will surge,
Lifting even the oldest, with some long dormant urge.
To build, to expand, to grow in some manner,
to pick up a cause, and march 'neath it's banner.

The Garden's too wet to till, or to burn last year's waste.
The earth is full of promise, yet the Mother pauses
unsure to bring forth tender shoots, and risk the killing frosts that lurk to the north.
Brave Jonquils risk it all, lording thier yellow glory over winter's brown remains.

4 Months Later !

Well, here it is March 17th. That's right, it's St. Patrick's day, and I'm at home on the 'Puter. What a shock !, but I haven't felt well in several days, and ain't exactly flush with money either.
I quit the job mentioned below, and took on a new contract, to start a new restaurant in half of a 2-year-old building on the south side of Kokomo. The people started off real well, tearing out walls I suggested, and buying equipment, etc. Within 10 days, it became obvious that they weren't interested in having a nice place to eat a great meal,..they merely wanted to offer more varieties of Crap to sell to the same gangster wannabe trash that had ruined thier business' name in the first place. They also weren't used to having someone tell them what needed done, and certainly didn't understand who I was, and what I did for a living. I quit under reasonably good terms, so as not to leave any new enemies behind. I have few regrets about quiting the other job, and am now trying to get my outdoors cafe set up and running for the year.
