When  the  tubulars  are  being  threaded , it  is  very  important  to  verify  that  the  threading  is  in  accordance  with  the  API  specifications  ( or  in  some  exceptions  to  premium  thread  specifications ).

This  would  entail  correct  make-up  on  the  rig  and  reduce  failures  due  to  incorrect  seal / shoulder  specifications  or  tolerances.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

The  Threading  process  is  monitored  either  on  a  continuous  basis  or  on  a  random  sampling  basis. The  Thread  inspection  process  consists  of  the  following  checkouts :
 

• Qualification  of  personnel  and  Equipment  Calibration  checks
• Gauging  of  Threads  for  Lead , Run-out , Taper  and  Height.
• Verification  of  application  of  anti-galling  Thread  protection.
• Verification  of  buck-on  torque  and  end-drift.
• Thread  Protectors  and  Storage  requirements.
• Proper  and  Complete  documentation  and  issuance  of  Release  note.

Tuboscope Indonesia carries out Thread Inspection and gauging at either the manufacturing / threader facilities and / or at the end-user location. In the case of used tubulars , Tuboscope also makes recommendations for corrective actions if any.

This inspection is particularly critical in the case of drill pipes when the cost of new drill string is prohibitively more than salvaging as many connection as possible.
