Last week was Halloween...check out some scary pictures at the bottom of the page!
Spelling- Each week prior to the Friday Spelling test we review using a basketball hoop. This has shown to truly help with spelling test scores.
Language- Write stories, poems, essays, and reports throughout the year. They also work on their handwriting.
Social Studies- Learn about the Eastern Hemisphere starting with early civilizations and working to the present. The students will write different reports throughout the year during research in books and on the computer. They will also construct some of these civilizations themselves.
Math- Students will work with many new and challenging things such as fractions, decimals, negative integers, algebra, geometry, and many more.
Reading- Our goal this year is to read enough books that we can read all the way around the room. After completing a book the students write their name, the book's title and author on a sports ball. They then cut it out and hang it on the wall. Each quarter they have a goal which will lead them to work together to read around the room by the end of the year.
Science- Students will do different experiments as they learn about earth science, physical science and life science. They will also write different reports about various topics sometimes by themselves and other times working together to accomplish the task.
Health- We will look at the food groups and health eating/living. We study the different body systems. This is all done during the 1st semester. In the 2nd semester we start Project Alert which is a Drug Resistant Program. The students will view videos, act out skits and practice resisting the pressure of drugs. This is an eleven week program.
School Boosters- This year we will do a Nation Fair. In which each student will research a nation. They will construct a tri-fold with pictures and a report. They will have a short speech. They will also prepare a customary dish from their country to share with everyone.
