The Aftermath of Tarmon Gai'don

--As written by Kara Sedai, Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah, historian of the end of the Third Age in "Turnings of the Wheel"

"…Calling out orders to men in black coats, Logain set them to work and took me towards the pavilions that were back behind the line of rough forts. He took me to the center of the camp where a large tent dominated. Around it were many flags—I only had time to recognize the standard of Tear, Illian, and Andor at the time. Later I would find out that every flag from just about every country in the world was there—including the nine moons from Seanchan. Aiel Far Dareis Mai (Maidens of the Spear) also surrounded it and it was to this tent that Logain guided me.

We entered the tent and I couldn't help but stare around the tent in wide-eyed wonder—it barely had standing room for all the men and women inside. The center of attention was a tall, man with reddish hair and gray-blue eyes that were harder than steel. He regarded me with his cold gaze and I couldn't help but remember the young shepherd boy that I had seen from a distance only three years before. He consented to allow me to assist as long as I consented to be Bonded by one of his Asha'man and I agreed--I had no choice if I wished to live to see the end of the battle. However, he would not let me help in any other way except direct attacks for fear I was one of the Black Ajah come to destroy him and his army.

.Tarmon Gai'don lasted for four days and three nights. On the final day they interrogated a prisoner who had been to the valley of Thakan'dar and made plans to attack the Dark One on his own ground. I have no idea what happened when they went to Thakan'dar, but I did know the moment that the Bore was sealed. The entirety of the Dark One's army went insane or broke and fled or turned against eachother. The Armies of Light (as they called themselves) pulled back and only had to defend the camp from the occasional attack from the ones that went crazy.

I also knew that the Dragon Reborn had fallen. Many of those that had gone with him were dead. The Asha'men, Lan, Mat, Perrin, and Gawyn bore Rand al'Thor's body on a funeral bier. The entire Army of Light had suffered similar losses. There were very few of the Aiel left and over half of each contingent from the different countries was dead—in many cases it was closer to three-fourths.

Finally, the Army of Light retreated to the ruins of Malkier, which showed signs of the Great Blight's recession. Rand's three wives stood vigil over his body and they would not leave--nor would Nynaeve Sedai of the Yellow Ajah. for three days the survivors mourned the loss of their leader and somberly celebrated their victory. On the third day, a miracle happened.

The remaining Ogier that had followed Rand to Tarmon Gai'don had begun to slowly make plans to rebuild Malkier—they had decided in that deliberate way of theirs that that would be their first task. It would also be the first sign that the Shadow had lost once again—and that the world would be filled with the Light once more.

The door of the Great Hall (repaired by a clever woodworker within the first day) was flung open three days later and Nynaeve was the first to enter with Lan by her side--Nynaeve's eyes sparkled with triumph. Following them was a small knot of people—four in number. The Rose Crown in Queen Elayne's hair sparkled as did her eyes and Aviendha and Min followed supporting a walking Rand on either side. From the looks on the inhabitants of the hall I knew—even then—that it took all of their willpower not to run.

"Blood and bloody ashes," Matrim Cathoun muttered rising to his feet and moving forward. "How many bloody lives do you have, Rand?"

"Perrin, look," I heard Perrin's wife Faile ni'Bashere t'Aybara exclaim.

"I think I’m down to my last one," Rand answered Mat with a wry smile. "But it is now safe to use saidin—no male channeler will ever go crazy from the taint again."

After several minutes of silence as Rand was settled in the nearest table everyone in the room raised a shout. "Hail, Rand al'Thor the Dragon Reborn!"

After a few weeks of rest and recuperation all of the leaders that remained after TG got together in a council--called in the Fourth Age the Great Council (which still meets every couple years in the modern time).. Merana, an Aes Sedai of the Gray Ajah that had survived Tarmon Gai'don presided. From those weeks of meetings—after all the arguing had died down—the Accords of the Dragon were reached. For the first time since the Trolloc Wars (not including Tarmon Gai'don) all the countries of the mainland stood together and the first time ever in the history of our world the countries from over the sea stood with us. Trade routes were plotted and lines of communication were opened between countries that hadn't spoken peacefully in years. Many of the changes that Rand had decreed during the Troubles were held up and added to the laws of the different countries. Revolutionary changes altered the societies of several countries. Such as the Seanchan phasing out the practice of taking any woman who had the inborn ability to channel damane. And Amadicia (more particularly the Whitecloaks (oops I meant Children of Light)) agreeing to no longer persecute Aes Sedai or those who could channel the One Power (I bet you could hear their screams echoing in Mayene). Elayne Trakand annexed the Two Rivers from Andoran control. Eventually, Perrin and Faile became the King and Queen of New Manetheren. Every country was given both an Aes Sedai and an Asha'man advisor.

Also established in the Accords were the Twin Towers…where male and female channelers alike would learn to use their special skills. The residence begun by the false Amyrlin Elaida was transformed into the central hall of the Twin Towers as the Seanchan had destroyed the White Tower in an assault before they joined forces with the mainland armies. Logain Ablar was named the M'Hael (which would become the title of the male leader of the Twin Towers) and Egwene maintained her postion as the Amyrlin seat. Despite many motions to dissolve the Red Ajah entirely it was merely reorganized led by the Warders of the M'Hael--the new purpose became to seek out any channeler in the world and bring them to the Twin Towers for training--over any protests they may make. The Three Oaths were taken out of the Aes Sedai ceremony…leaving the older Aes Sedai with the decision as to whether or not they would have themselves unbound--many did not. The Aiel Wise Ones, the Kin, and the Windfinders became an integral part of the Twin Towers. Now any woman trained may choose to serve in the Tower, at sea (Windfinders), in the desert (Aiel Wise Ones), or in the city (The Kin--who work much more closely w/ the populace than the Aes Sedai).

Many years would pass before the people would become adjusted to the fact that their entire world had shifted on its foundations…"

***For those interested in the fate of our main heroes it is as follows: Egwene married Gawyn but he died 55 years after TG--she has never Bonded another Warder. Nynaeve sort of runs a school for Healing (Lan died around 42 years after TG and Nynaeve has also never Bonded another) and Elayne serves in Caemlyn as the AS advisor (she stepped down as Queen just after Min died (about 57 years after TG)). Rand (who married all three ladies), Elayne, and Avi live in a small manor house close to the border between the wetlands and the three-fold land (Elayne Travels everyday to Caemlyn unless they are staying there to visit--after all it is their family that sits on the throne). Perrin and Faile lived happily together and died about 60 years after TG (Faile first and then Perrin)--they were the King and Queen of New Manetheren (which consists of the 2R and a few of the surrounding lands). Mat married the Dot9M (Tuon) and lived happily every after until he died during a misunderstanding at a gambling table when he was 87 years old.
