Computer Wallpaper Pictures

Revised 7/1/2013

You can have a picture of a beautiful turtle as the wallpaper for your computer desktop. We are pleased to provide pictures that are well suited for this purpose.

Let us begin with an explanation for those of you who may not be comfortable setting up your computers. The desktop is the window that opens when you turn on your computer. A wallpaper is a picture that is inserted as the background of the desktop. It may be a very small picture that makes a pattern like bricks or a larger picture that repeats.  On a web page, it is referred to as a "background" but it is the same as a wallpaper. Most pages on TurtleTails.com  use a picture that repeats until the screen is filled.

You can create wallpapers for your computer desktop that fill the screen once with a high quality picture. It is better when the size of the picture is about the same as the resolution of the computer monitor.

For Windows users, wallpapers are stored in the file folder called "Windows" typically stored on your C drive. You pick a wallpaper by opening the following windows: My Computer, Control Panel, and Display. In the Display Properties window available wallpapers in the Windows folder are listed. You may also choose "Browse". Any picture anywhere on your computer may be selected as your wallpaper by using the Browse option. Therefore, you may store your new wallpaper pictures in any folder you choose.

We are selecting pictures that have plenty of space around the subjects so that your icons do not completey cover the subjects. If you have a program for editing pictures, you may resize a picture. Any parts of a picture that fall off the screen do not matter and can be ignored.

In the Display Properties window you also have the option of centering the picture without repeating. Tile places the picture in the upper right corner of the screen and repeats it until the screen is filled. Stretch will increase or decrease the size of a picture to fill your screen in both directions so it is better to use a picture of the same width to height ratio as your monitor. Some quality will be lost using the stretch feature.

You may also choose the color for the icons on your desktop by clicking on the color button. Text in the icons will be white or black depending on the color you choose.
