Alpha Phi Omega Students Provide Generous Grant

Some of our most enthusiastic Saturday tutors are members of CASE's chapter of Alpha Phi Omega (APO), a national service fraternity. In the Spring of 2005, they applied for (and received!) a Youth Service Grant from their national headquarters to benefit the tutoring program.

The chapter's Service Vice President said, "The APO members who volunteer on Saturdays thought that some new and different supplies could really increase the impact that we have with the tutoring program."

She explained, "We chose the tutoring program because it is one of our favorite projects, it is our most stable commitment, and we really wanted to help . . ."

The $500 grant that CASE's APO chapter received will provide dry-erase boards and markers, world and U.S. map puzzles, and several instructional games like the "Pie in the Sky" fraction game, which will reinforce classroom instruction and make learning more fun.

Speaking for APO's members, the Service VP said, "We all greatly enjoy volunteering with the program and wanted to do everything in our power to help out. Thanks for providing such a great volunteer opportunity for us."

The Church of the Covenant sincerely thanks the members of Alpha Phi Omega for sharing their time, talents, and ideas to improve the Saturday Tutoring Program.
