Here are mini reviews for all the films I (Shaun) have seen in 1999

Go To Shaun's Movie Review Emporium

                                                                       A
At  First  Sight:  B- Pretty good performances from Kilmer and Sorvino, but some of the sub plots seemed set up and did not gel. The matter was dealt with maturely, and meticulously..
Another  Day  In  Paradise:  B+ The crime movie of the year, these are not novice crooks, these are the pros pulling heists that seem risky, but they are audacious. Amazing performance from James Woods.
Analyze  This:  A Wily performances from the entire cast, the funniest movie since "There's Something About Mary", a wild romp on the funny syndicate known as...the mob. You will laugh till your sides ache.
A  Walk  On  The  Moon:  A- A bittersweet tearjerker with proficient performances from a mostly versatile cast, the setting is satisfying and the era depicted is my favorite....the 60's, a refreshing slice of life that should not be missed.

                                                                          B
Blast  From  The  Past:  B Cute puppy dog relationship from actors who  shine with charisma, the veteran  acting was nice as well. An inventive idea that is fun and well supplied with comedic scenes.
Black Mask:  F Well this is the first film that I ever walked out of, so that must be saying a lot. So horrid and inept you can feel your loss of brain cells by the second. Please America do no release any more Asian films with english voice overs.

                                                                         C
Cruel  Intentions:  B A fantastic exuberant, seductive, and wild ride through the eyes of three ambitious teens with one thing on their mind....sex. All was going well until that awful denouement ending.
Cookie's  Fortune:  C+ A real slow film that whenever you suspect the juice is about to flow, it halts, not too enigmatic or puzzling, wasted talent, and some humorous sequences. Too unbelievable

                                                                         D
Doug's  First  Movie:  F I used to actually watch the series when Nickelodeon owned the rights, Disney took away all interest or appeal, hence the hostile gratitude towards this bad animated film.

                                                                          E
8MM: B The director deprived this film from the elements that were vital in order for it to succeed in be astonishing, although it is good, it could of been a whole lot better, such as a more intense climax build up.
EDtv:  B+ Highly entertaining and flamboyantly funny, a touching and unpredictable film with a hilarious ensemble cast. There is a lot to contrast in this film from The Truman Show, a rich crowd pleasure.
Election:  A One word can summarize this film, it is phosphorescent, shines with brilliance and outstanding performances. Not only does it have wit, but it contains true emotions as well. An amazing satire.
Entrapment:  A- A high velocity thrill ride that is carried at a rapid pace by the actors, both veteran and novice. A feel jubilance for the high octane action fans who do not mind sensibility. Very acute and involving.
eXistenZ:  B An imaginative and creative movie that is both mind blowing and thought provoking. With an extension in length it would have been amazing, sadly it will have to settle as a plain good film. Only for the hardcore sci-fi fans.

                                                                          F
Forces  Of  Nature:  B A cute romantic/comedy/travesty movie with plenty of spontaneous acts and a washed up ending, good chemistry between Affleck and Bullock.

                                                                          G
Go:  A+ A totally vibrant and accurate depiction of the rave scene, the most indulging and entertaining film since "Pulp Fiction". A high rocketing ride that does not decrease in it's speed. For anyone who is looking for a hip film, search no further, this is the epidomy of it.
Goodbye  Lover:  C+ The acting is nicely pulled off, too bad the story was weak and not applicable to those looking for a guilty plot twister. It was disparate form your usual speed ride, if it had brains I would understand, but obviously it didn't.

                                                                          H
Hideous Kinky:  B A nice spiritual journey into the inner self, with an outstanding performance from Kate Winslet. For those looking for a plot, have fun searching, but if you are in the mood for a good character study, it should satisfy. The scenery is amazing.

                                                                          I
Idle Hands:  B The funniest senseless film that has been released in quite a while, not for those without a stomach for gore. It contains extremely sick humor, and some chills, a must see for teen slackers.

                                                                         J
Jawbreaker:   C- A horrible blend of unappealing dialogue and annoying sarcastic teens is the result from this insipid and dull film about a cover up.
Just  The  Ticker:  B- Nice sub plots and a fine performance from Andy Garcia, devotion and involvement make the story appealing, but the la femme Andy trashes this film with her heinous acting ability.

                                                                         K

                                                                          L
Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels: B+ A fresh and gritty hip British comedy that invigorates your belief in cinema, the camera shots and angles are original and the dialogue is smart , funny, and unpredictable.
Life:  B- A comedy that deteriorates as it proceeds, it tries to be more then it is, but Murphy still has that comic gem that glows so bright. It is funny, but nothing special.
Lost And Found:  B A cute little quirky romantic comedy that delivers big laughs, and some sick humor. reminiscent to "There's Something About Mary", but it is more demure.

                                                                           M
Message  In  A  Bottle:  A- Kevin Costner and Robin Penn are a romantic collaboration that works beautifully in this dreamy romance film, touching and well performed.
A Midsummer Night's Dream: D+ Thismovie had me yearning to jumpout of my seat and jam right out of the theatre. I lwas literaly twitching for the credits to roll. The hollow forrest was the exact invert of magical. A tedious bore, with one or two laughs.
The Mummy:  B This movie is nothing short of a good time. High octane action with some cheesy one liners, and special effects up the wazoo. A film full of thrills and chills.

                                                                        N

                                                                        O
Office  Space:  B Crazily funny and outrageously true to life, hysterical antics and a original plot leave positive elements in the success of this film, but nearing the end I felt unsatisfied.

                                                                        P
Payback:  B If you like sadistic violence and a plot that was crafted in about five seconds you will adore this film, well I liked Gibson's turn point from goody hero to bad ass destroyer.
Playing  By  Heart:  B- Too many romances occurring simultaneously it is hard to keep track, with such a professional cast I felt a little bit a let down from bits of dullness. The redeemable aspect in the film was the relationship between Jolie and Phillippe
Pushing Tin:  B A original comedy that brings to life a side of flying we wish would stay secrete in our minds, air traffic control. All actors fulfill their roles and the humor was vivid. You should see this film if you are a Cusack or Jolie fan, and are in the mood to be entertained.

                                                                        Q

                                                                      R
Rushmore:  A A highly original comedy that is so factual, brings light to the corner of teen adolescence, it is funny but not to an extent of slapstick, and dramatic but not too touching. Robbed of an oscar for Bill  Murray

                                                                       S
She's  All  That:  B A teen comedy that is feasible, you have a good time watching this film, the plot has been worn out but these teens are so naive that it's a turn on, and no I am not being faceitous when I am saying that this is a good film.
Simply  Irresistable:  F one word, terrible! I will not even ellaborate on how bad this film is, poor Buffy.
Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace:  A- The saga begins in this special effects bonanza, it is the epidomy of eye cany and computer generated characters. The sound will blow your ears off, and the action will have you drooling for more. Not the best, but nontheless a great movie.

                                                                    T
200  Cigarettes:   B A clever script with too many characters, but the wit was still there, funny predicaments and attractive teens made this film enjoyable, plus the 80's music glorify the films era.
The  Corruptor:  B A urbane action movie that starts at a rapid pace and rarely loses track, pretty effective acting and nice gun techniques.
The  Rage:  Carrie  2:  C A mediocare teen horror flick, only they extracted the horror, would be better on video for a few cheap thrills.
True  Crime:  B A intillectual thriller with electrifying acting, it's nice to see a film whose fundaments are not guns shots and car chases, rather interactions that are intimate and agrresive. Nice job in directing for Clint Eastwood
The  Mod  Squad:  C+ A lame script and descent directing make this once T.V series a quiet film that does not amount to much except for the three hip actors and a few nice shots of Clare Daines body.
The  Matrix:  A A sci-fi classic that will hold you and consume you from the time it commences to its grand finale, the special effects are some of the best ever, and the vision from these brothers is promising. The best film so far ths year.
The  Out  Of  Towners:  D Stupid, stupid, stupid, I feel degraded and insulted after seeing such a sully film, I'm not going to waste anymore of my time.
10  Things  I  Hate  About  You:  B- Your average teen comedy, unoriginal in every aspect, some comedic scenes, but not enough to make up for all the holes left, I loved the acting hence the grade. Intelligent dialogue.
Trippin:  C A mediocare African-American comedy about a teen who hallucinates about be "the man" and having sex with all the women. It was funny until it tried to "keep it real".

                                                                          U

                                                                         V
Varsity  Blues:  C+ The demure protagonist in this film is the only likeable charcter presented in this fair football drama set in Texas. Some themes are not handled with care, could have been a lot better, some comedic moments.
