Alisa has been selected as this year's Student
Representative to the ASID
Professional Northern California Chapter Board of Directors. Alisa is a
student of interior architecture and design at The Academy of Art Institute.
She is also working as a student intern at the ASID office at the Design
Center several days a week and can be reached there at 415-626-2743. She is
working on getting a space for students on the ASID professional
Designfinder Web site. She hopes to facilitate a mentoring program for
students through this site. She also will be organizing the interschool
events this year.
MEET FRAN CHAIR OF STUDENT AFFAIRS
Alisa is fortunate to have the assistance of Fran
Kellogg Smith, who is the
liason from the professional chapter to the Alliance of Northern California
Student Chapters and the Chapter's Chair of Student Affairs. Fran is a
dynamo and a terrifically helpful person who really cares about students.
She is always organizing some event or activity and if you want to get
involved with professional designers, a good way to do that is to voluteer
to work with Fran. She is currently organizing the Student Career Forum held
every year. You can reach Fran through me, Rinna B. Flohr, your Student
Chapter President this year, or through Alisa or directly by e-mail at billfran@wco.com
ALLIANCE OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA STUDENT CHAPTERS:
So, what is the Alliance of Northern California
Student Chapters? The
Alliance was formed a year ago to bring all the schools offering interior
design programs together to plan and present student events and workshops
and other activities. In this way we get to meet and mingle with students
from other schools and put together our joint budgets, energy and efforts to
offer various opportunities beyond the classroom that are better than any
one school can do on our own. Last year we sponsored two well attended and
well reviewed events: One on International Design and another on Residential
Design. A different school takes the lead for each event. UCBX's turn is
coming up so, lets think of a great idea to sponsor. If you are interested
in this project, give Rinna a call 510-849-3111.
INTRODUCING OUR NEW PROFESSIONAL CHAPTER PRESIDENT
Our new professional ASID Northern California Chapter
President this year is
Karen Libby. Karen is a seasoned health care design professional who owns
her own company located in Berkeley, called Libby Design Associates. Karen
has been very active in ASID over the years. She has served as a past
Secretary, Treasurer and Chair of Public Awarness, Program and Hospitality
Committees. She too, has a strong commitment to supporting students.
Her focus this year is to increase member communication through technology
(Website and internet connections), and to continue to offer top notch
programs for professional members and student members participation. This
year the professional chapter is keeping watch on National legislation to
protect the interior designers right to practice which is being threatened
by AIA interests. Periodically our lobbyist seeks information about how
proposed legislation effects designers and the Chapter seeks members show of
support by appearing at hearings or writing representatives. If you are
interested in legislative matters, our liaison to UCBX Brenda Beers Mock is
the professional chapter legislative chair. Contact Benda at Brendamock@earthlink.net
Karen has invited any interested student to attend
a Board meeting at the
ASID office #2 Henry Adams Square at the Design Center in San Francisco.
Meetings and other events are open to students and are posted on the ASID
web site: @designfinder.com. Once there, then go to the newsletter. Should
you wish to contact Karen, you can reach her through her e-mail: Lda@bena.com
. Alisa, however can carry your ideas to the Board as she
speaks for all students.
